Anyone else thinking that Rock am Ring/Rock im Park, Hurricane/Southside, Grüne Hölle/Rockavaria and now Lollapalooza Berlin running in the same year may not end well for every party involved?

That's not even all of it, there's at least a dozen more with international acts. Is a bit odd yeah and from keeping up with all of this I gather people do think it's becoming saturated. Could become world's foremost festival nation and attract people from all around the world though if they get it right.

I'm kinda sceptical about Lolla Berlin. It's on the site of the 20k capacity Berlin Festival. Surely they're not gonna get Lollapalooza sized headliners for a 20k-ish festival, right?

Only 20k? Really? That's a pity. In South America they chose really huge places.

Anyway Berlin does anybody know how's usually the weather in Berlin in September? Rainy?

I think the point is they can secure big touring acts by offering them more dates which makes it more appealing, especially as the American festival scene is every weeked through the summer season too. Festivals have to do something to attract artists - going back a few years in the UK we had twinned festival who shared acts, and there are some festival promoters in the UK who run more than one event, I guess it makes economic sense. Putting festivals on the same weekends seems to be a tactic though where they're clearly trying to take out other players in the market.

I know from a valid source that Mumford & Sons are playing Lollapalooza Berlin this year. I don't know how trustful that info might seem to you but I am a hundred percent sure.

not so hard to predict they'll do R&L in uk august 28 and they're not doing any other german festival during the summer

Yup, can't say I was too surprised. We'll see everything else next Monday, but I am very confident my source is right with M&S.

Very mixed bag. Macklemore is an awful headliner. Was expecting far more rock on that announcement.

Still very good value for the ticket price though.

I'm not impressed either. How Macklemore is the headliner is beyond me. I went to Sziget last year and they headlined a day there too. And I have no idea when people like Sam Smith became the sort of people you book at festivals. Really disappointed and kind of feel like I've been mis-sold the Lollapalooza brand, a little bit. I've already bought a ticket and booked accomodation and flights but still seriously thinking about not bothering with it. I hope they pull something special out of the bag, for the second headliner, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't get that either. My hunch is that it's maybe The Strokes, as they've just announced a big Hyde Park gig so they won't want to detract from ticket sales for that. But that may just be wishful thinking.

The headliner missing is Muse. They cant announce it until Rockavaria/Der Ring sister festivals are over (they end Sunday May 31st). If you see official poster you can check that the headliner remaining has a really short name.
