Back on topic though.

Have you thought about doing a USA one?

Yes indeed, I did one a few months back.

Again the usual challenge of a glut of creative talent in the California & New York areas but I like how it turned out.

The problem with this one is that there is nothing on it for Chicago House, Detroit Techno which totally changed music. There is hardly any disco reference and where is Nile Rogers and Chic? Hes probably a more influential artist than any other on that picture.

Mental note to self - keep an eye on this thread, if one of the jocks sobers up for long enough to read this, there'll be fireworks.

That's fine - it's true enough and there are large empty areas in the highlands that can hardly be expected to produce huge numbers of successful bands.

However, "jocks"....? "sober up"....?

Yeah. But as we all know, disco sucks. :)

Not sure if serious about Nile? Do you mean in reality or in his mind?

More infuential than Dylan? Elvis? Robert Johnson? Velvet Underground, Ramones?

I'll openly admit that my personal preferences (blues, indie, rock) were baked in there.

And I've purposely left out a glut of poppy acts who have sold a hell of a lot of records.

I'll hold my hand up that Chic/Nile Rodgers merit inclusion...especially if you factor in his recent resurgence as an artist/producer/collaborator.

But most influential? God no.

Off the top of my head I'd suggest the following to be appended to Gnomicide's list:

Michael Jackson, Hendrix, Miles Davis, Little Richard

...and there's probably a hell of a lot more if we gave it more collective thought.

George Young, having heard that Scott was in a pipe band, encouraged the use of the bagpipes in the song and Scott obliged though having never played them before; eventually managing to squeeze a tune out of them.[1] In fact Scott was a side drummer for the pipe band and had no previous experience with the bagpipes.[1] Scott played the bagpipes live until in 1976 he set the bagpipes down at the corner of a stage and they were destroyed by fans.[1] The band reverted to a tape in subsequent live performances

I was physically attacked by by Alesha Dixon in Ayia Napa in June 2001. I did not press charges.

This explains so much.

Thats quite a feat as never before or after, has a tune came out of someone playing the bagpipes :P
