Going on your own, but not alone - a strategy!

It is unfortunate but I appear to have ran out of up votes. Thank you for your kind words Ben. Just wondering - are you a Brummie or are you having to travel to Birmingham to meet the coach details of your ticket?

Live in Bromsgrove and work in Brum, Yog, so it's pretty perfect for me, coach wise. Have been to lots of fests on coaches (works for me as I tend to travel v light) and just LOVE the anticipation of that first sight of the sites. Almost nothing more exciting in my year...

Nice one! I have made some great friends from Glastonbury festival over the years. Without actively looking either and I have some great memories from things we/I have seen/done with complete strangers. So like I say, you are more than welcome to tag along with us. We are a good bunch and we have no problem in splitting up to go and watch our own things and then meeting back up afterwards. I am sure you will have the best time ever!

Thanks, ads! That sounds just about perfect! Getting all this stuff organised in the spring will be amazing.

Tort's Glastonbury FAQ

It's like an almanac.

Getting to know a group will definitely help you navigate around better but I wouldn't worry as its nice getting lost occasionally during the day, especially if you feel you aren't getting to see enough of the site & all the other bits & bobs going on. I felt I wasted too much time at camp this year dossing with friends whereas before I'd be exploring & meeting up with them later.

What music are you into Ben?

Hi Couchy

Yes, I'm likely to be VERY busy for the five days - I'm really not one for hanging around camp after setting off in the morning. This year, my first Glastonbury, I'm determined to pack as much in as possible, but much less 'structured' than my typical festival itinerary...so really can't wait to find stuff by bimbling, whilst having a manageable number of must sees.

In terms of what I like...bands I'm hoping for would include The Twilight Sad, Everything Everything, Stornoway...that kind of thing. 'Park' stuff, I guess. But I also love good hip hop (would love to have seen J5...), jazz stuff, epic post rock. AND I love 'good' electronica/dance. So would love to see Luke Abbott, Kiasmos, etc. but you can keep your Calvin Harris and Skrillex, thanks all the same!

Stornoway were both brilliant last year playing "Wearing My Casio" to take the mick out of Wiley's no show due to the mud & on The Park a few years before.

Tbh most of the random & interesting stuff to see is between The Park & Circus Field from what I can remember.

Don't ignore seeing some comedy as sets during the day are around 20/25 minutes, you can always walk out easy if they are dying/awful, get out the sun/rain & the evening sets are brilliant as everyone is totally smashed.

I think your idea is brilliant, Ben. Mobile phones will be the key to making it happen. The eFests camp thing is great in theory and it seemed to work really well this year (27 hours before I can say LAST year!) however the issue with it is that there will be some people who will want or need to camp elsewhere and won't be able to share a campsite.

Sharing numbers and some indication of the kind of stuff you definitely intend to be at should mean you'll always have at least one or two (hopefully more) people knocking about nearby who would meet up and share a drink, a laugh and a dance with you. It'd be messy to make work and meeting up randomly would be a bit of a nightmare, but if you know what part of the site you'll be at and can commit to it, somebody else can head in that direction and locating each other won't be so difficult as long as it's not 5 minutes before somebody starts playing!

This thread is the first to make me realise what I'll be missing next year by not going to the festival.

Ben - I can almost feel your excitement.

Better leave it there as a wave of Glasto nostaligia has just hit me.

Oh no!

I probably did, but cannot remember seeing in threads that you're not going to be there for 2015, Yog.

Major bummer. Are you going somewhere else, festival-wise?

A busy job, three teenagers and a guilt gene mean that I am only able ever to do one festival a year, but have done so for the last decade and would be seriously down if I didn't know that I had my 'one' to look forward to...

Hello Ben.

Yeah, I'm having a break from Glastonbury next year. I am going to some other smaller festivals though, which I'm looking forward to, so can't complain.

i find "plans" at glasto go out the window within minutes of arriving

& also you make friends anywhere you sit down for 5 minutes all weekend

i would happily do glasto alone

my tuppence :)

I agree. I always Bimble solo and you'll always meet people with the same musical taste at the relevant stages you choose to attend.....

IE Morrissey fans go to see Morrissey etc etc.

At Glasto, everyone will be happy to talk if you ask them to. UNLIKE the other 51 weeks of the year.

Sadly if you walk up to randoms in, say, a shopping centre or supermarket and try to engage in friendly banter you'd probably get short shrift. I find one of the few remaining places where you can usually strike up a conversation with strangers are in the 'smokers corners' outside pubs where the lepers gather.
