Bestival 2015 headline guesses

Get yourself down to ryde and chill out is my Monday advice if you are on foot. Only time I've had a clean escape from the island is with a car prebooked onto the ferry. If I go foot passenger I go via Southampton, and Cowes isn't a particularly great place to kill a few hours. Last year when we packed up around lunchtime the queues weren't too bad though. One year I waited 2 hours at cows, last year was only about 30 mins (which means we had just missed the ferry before we got there)

Where's the best chippy around Ryde?

There's quite a good one if you walk up the highstreet, up the bastard hill, and then it sort of zig zags half way up and carrys on going. Not too far after where it zig zags, there is one on the right.

I don't go to the island regularly enough these days to say if it's the best or not, but it was pretty good last time I went.

You can always hang out in the massive theme park near the beach. But it's not as good since they took out the mega roller coaster

I have a prebooked ferry but on foot, would that allow me to jump the queue like?

Last year I think we got a 4pm shuttlebus with literally no queues to east cowes, then straight on a ferry with no queues at about 5. We're going slightly earlier this time though and to another port so I'm worried

In the past it hasn't been the case sadly, I think the only people who get to jump the queues are the locals with a season ticket.

Why I have always bought open returns for festivals, no panic to get certain trains with a massive queue in front of you.

You could buy a similar ticket on the way back. Can you buy an off peak ticket at Ryde when you arrive Thursday for the Monday? Other than that, pack most of your gear up Sunday afternoon ready for a quickish gettaway early Monday morning.

Or pull an all nighter.

Edit: I normally have a lie in on Monday, leave the site late & spend the afternoon having fish & chips or Domino's & a couple of pints in Ryde. Make a day of it coming back to recover.

I've got the £1 Megatrain booked for Monday so no choice! Guess I'll just have to get up Mega-early on the Monday and any time I may have to hang out will sadly be spent in Portsmouth train station!

"and Sunday eve @bestival is @DJYodaUK into @jungbros4life into Boy Better Know @JmeBBK into The Jacksons, yes THE JACKSONS into @MissyElliott"

That's pretty epic if you think about it.

Where's the best chippy around Ryde?

Not the codfather that's for sure, it's bloody awful. Convenient as it's opposite the bus station on the esplanade but it really is sh1t.

I live in ryde and the top 3 chippys in my opinion are....

1 Chipmunks, Monkton street, about 10 mins walk from the bus station (no bastard hill) might be a good idea to ring 1st to see if they're open as they sometimes close certain days, but they're the best.

2 Wights, up the bastard hill, keep going up, past the pedestrianised bit to the high street to the jobcentre and it's opposite that. (It'll be on your left.)

3 Tonys, is the chippy the other person mentioned. Up the bastard hill but not quite as far as Wights (2-3 mins less). Up the pedestrianised bit to where costa coffee is, look for a jewellers called hobbs and you'll see it, it's not quite on the high street but you'll see it from the jewellers. It'll be on your right.

Hope that helps.

Just looking at that Thursday Big Top lineup again, ridiculously strong - almost feels like it could easily be a main stage lineup on any of the days just from Underworld and Jamie xx alone

What time does the Big Top finish on the Thursday again? Always such a good vibe in there on the Thursday (altho it's also absolutely packed)

Special Guests - Faithless? Got a big gap between SW4 and their tour. Or would that be a bit too 1990s?

Kasabian are also free after the end of August, and seem to have played every big festival in the UK apart from Bestival...

I'd imagine (although I'm not necessarily that bothered) that RDB would be looking for a decent-sized act after seeing Muse drop out.

me and my friends are so on the fence about going this year. the lineup is great (though not mind blowing, imo) and i've got the money and time off work, but the travelling from Liverpool is a huge pain - nearly killed me in 2012 - and the whole police dog / drug search thing has sent the shits up me (and before anybody says 'don't bring drugs then' - don't be silly)

Maybe have a stopover or spend a night on the Island on Wednesday & Monday?

I've never had any problems with the dogs, but they are there.

I travelled from Liverpool in 2012 and it was a nightmare.took 15 hrs to get back on the Monday after the awful shuttle bus queues.

But then I went last yr via train to London - Portsmouth - Ryde and it was so much easier. There were basically no shuttle bus queues on the Monday either. So they have made improvements that way. But the searches were a lot more thorough to the point where they were basically emptying bags.

What time for no shuttle queues please. I've been screwed by this before.

I'm doing the Liverpool - London - Portsmouth - Ryde way this year. It was the cheapest way and fingers crossed it's just as easy as it was when you did it

It's surprisingly quicker too. I'm going on Wednesday this year and staying over, leaving on the Tuesday. Nice little holiday and avoiding the ferry queues

Yeah I'm going on the Wednesday as well because I'm volunteering for it this year. We get to ryde at about 4ish I think. We're leaving on Monday at about 3pm so should hopefully dodge the ferry/shutte bus queues
