Victorious 2015

the wonderwhy

Highly unlikely they'd get a cheaper price for shorter sets. My (ltd) experience in booking bands is that set time isn't a major factor. It's the full cost of touring ( personnel, production, travel etc that determines price - plus of course status as an artist). It's very odd the way that Victorious let smaller local acts have the same set length of half an hour on the big stages as they do established national / international bands.

But then Victorious us a different model isn't it? It's a festival for people who don't normally go to festivals, cheap tickets, bundle people in in their masses (they've sold 100,000 day tickets so far apparently) with the bars run by the organisers themselves apparently rather than contracted out.

Why book The Flaming Lips if that's your audience? But I guess that's who Tinie Tempah is there for. Obviously this board sways my perspective but it definitely seems like they're the main draw for a lot of people (myself included) and giving them a shorter set isn't doing much good.

The Flaming Lips could do all day and I'd be perfectly happy. An hour does seem a bit strange! It'll be interesting to see how this festival progresses over the next couple of years, it's very delineated with about 20 'famous'ish bands and the lower part of the set pretty much all unknowns - it'll be interesting to see who else fancies headlining a festival that's big in numbers attending, but small in prestige and in playing time!

Anyone who went last year know if there was much over running on the planned times? 22:45 is an odd finish time to worth noting. Usually to the half or full hour on the clock. I'd imagine it's likely to be nearer 11:00PM for the headliners to finish. Obviously promoters hoping there's no stage hiccups that take time to resolve.

You've also got half an hour in between each set at least on the main stage give or take a few minutes extra per set I'd imagine we may end up with 35/40 mins per act that has '30'according to the schedule.

Edit: According to their shitty android app that's out of date and I for some reason can't claim my money back on, last year's headliners finished at Midnight?

Cheers for doing the clashfinder Matt!

Im happy enough with those times, pretty crap however that the two main stages start/end as the other start/ends

I have no idea how quick you can get from one stage to the other. 30 min sets means not much chance to dip from one to the other?

It was a bit of a trek getting from the main to 2nd stage last year as you had to walk all round the outside and enter through the back.

Hopefully thats why there is a shuffle with the site layout to make getting between stages easier.

Weather is looking OK. Anybody know if the Castle bit is open on the Friday this year? Had a good crack there last year. Met this lovely old couple. Asked the lady to take a pic of me and mates and somehow she managed to take about 300. Bless.

Wont be going Ash on the Friday now!

Just found out Rev Pro Wrestling is at the Guildhall on the Friday night with a Main Event of AJ Styles v Mark Haskins and we are in a hotel a 4 min walk from the venue! Result!

Do you have tickets for ash you want to sell? Interested if you do.

The core audience last year were locals who didn't appear to be your 'typical' festival types (whatever that is these days). Victorious is (kind of) a music festival for non-music people - the attraction for the majority seemed to be a bunch of biggish names on the main stage for a small price. Maybe it will be different this year because of theLips, but I doubt it  (last years headliners were Dizzee Rascal (sold out on his day) and Seasick Steve (noticeably emptier)

This year the capacity has increased by 20k per day and the new main stage (The Common Stage) is if anything further to walk to than between the Castle Stage and last years Seaside Stage. I'd guess 7-10 minutes walk, but then it will be dependent on the crowds. If its busy by the Common Stage you might spend another 10 minutes picking your way through if you want to get to see anything close - it's a very very big open space infront of the Common Stage.

Last year most things ran to time or very close to.

Just home as we didn't stay for lips or tempah (Just not my thing) weird site. Distance between the two main stages is bigger than Reading/Wireless which is a bit odd.

Crowd are terrible but to be expected as all family's really. Does mean there's little trouble so I suppose that's a benefit. Fratellis, Primal Scream and JAWS plus Peter Hook where all great. That was pretty much everything I saw today. Food same as every festival. Ate some noodles sorry I ordered noodles but got more sauce than anything. £6.50 well spent on that meal. Still I look forward to tomorow. More music geared towards my taste. Hopefully the weather isn't as shit as it has been today. Fucking dire.

Loving it. Far far more toilets and bars than last year. Layout is a bit odd but better than last year. Sound was dead quiet for Primals. Flaming Lips were amazing as ever. Just. Awesome. If you see a confused looking fella in a Stone Roses hat and Wind-up Birds t-shirt and no coat that'll be me.
