If you're gonna participate in a thread about a festival a year and a half away, then you've got to be at least a little open to bands actually doing something in the year and a half running up to it and their statures changing. Look at this year's lineup and think about whether you'd have predicted that a year ago.

No I don't lol, Imagine Dragons and C&S I've got arguments for and from what I got C&S had a massive crowd. Top sub booking it sounds like. If Foals can release something and sell a tour off the back off it worthy of the step up then yeah I'll consider it.

Yes lol, but all you are giving me is a prediction for a band to headline based on the fact that they might sell a new album well, sell a big tour well and it puts them at headline status.

But I'm saying "We're predicting they will have a big album and tour arenas" and you're replying "I'll predict that when they announce it". If you're gonna make next year's predictions without considering the impact of new material to be released before the festival then you finna be way off ain't ya.

Yes you are, I'm not debating that. My view is, I'm not so sure it will be so I'll hold back and wait. There are options I'd predict to headline, not just at this moment but further down the line before I'd predict them.

They sold out Ally Pally twice over very quickly - the first in 9 minutes - alongside a very respectable UK tour with added dates, and they've also headlined two of the country's foremost festivals and Melvin has said he wants them to headline in the future. Now, just because Imagine Dragons and Chase & Status have arena shows (don't even know if C+S sold theirs out) to their name they've got a better shot? Vampire Weekend did arenas and didn't get the billing Jake Bugg or Macklemore did.

It's all relative really.

Vampire Weekend strike me as a bit of a Ben Howard in the way that their own tours sell for their fans but they don't have as bigger broader appeal, their crowd at Reading would indicate this. The point to notice is he says in the future, if I'm right, someone mentioned the other day that C&S have a new album coming out later this year? That same MB said they can headline no bother with another album.

Interesting point that, we do read 'arena tour' and assume headline act, but it's not that clear cut.

Vampire Weekend did do an arena tour however it didn't sell particularly well IIRC

No, a friend went to the Manchester gig and said there were more empty seats than occupied ones

Imagine Dragons arena tour seems to be doing pretty well. The only venues I couldn't really gauge how well it was doing was Nottingham and Newcastle. The tickets I could get for that would be pretty decent. So while an arena tour isn't always a sure thing, Imagine Dragons seem to be doing pretty well with theirs,

People on here have always viewed these bigger than they are. When it was mentioned they'd done an arena tour, I had to check as I was like really?!

While on this subject, I saw on YouTube yesterday FOB's crowd in 13 playing 3rd compared to Enter Shikari's last 3rd and wow! They were punching!

Vampire Weekend announcing an arena tour caused me and my wee cousin to have a bit of a snigger in their direction. They had no chance.

I'd very much think in their case it was maybe more financially beneficial for them. Glasto trumped whatever crowd Reading has had by a country mile but it's also a consideration there is WAY more people on site to see them. They were also on the Sunday so had the benefit that it's the locals/residents day as some just don't much. Saw an older couple absolute going for it while The Vaccines were on that year too, made me chuckle :). Some acts do do that, B4MV equally did an arena tour and had no chance either.

Black Stone Cherry did an arena tour and, I'm assuming, played to 8 people on each date.

I remember being very surprised when I saw it. But the MEN looks pretty full for when they played it.

I'd love to see them get given a good mainstage slot at R&L but with the way it's going it just isn't worth hoping for.
