Headliners are booked really early on though for 2014 two out of the year were booked by October and for this year at least one headliner had already been booked at the end of the festival.

I'm sure I remember Melvin saying at the end of R&L 2013 that he already had two of the headliners booked for 2014 (I'm presuming that they were AM & Blink)

I still reckon Foos, Foals and Slipknot. I don't think Foo Fighters will return to Glastonbury - their tour will be already mapped out and they'll probably lose money for sacrificing their R+L exclusivity to do Glastonbury.

Of course they will, they did it when they had to cancel Puckelpop in 2011 and returned in 2012. If the tour was completely already mapped then being in Belgium against in August 12 on the same weekend would be unlikely. He's very much a dedicated to his fans man I'll give him that. They'll do the same for Werchter fans as Puckelpop and Stadium gig people will get their show too. They will lose money but they aren't broke, they'll still get a decent headliner fee as at the end of the day, only so many people will get a Glasto ticket. Personally I think everyone with a ticket for the stadiums should be allowed to reuse them, I'm unsure what stance on them in mind.

I'm almost sure it won't be Muse.

Why not though?

They won't have Slipknot AND Muse.

I forgot that I had two Download headliners but still not sure who it could be though. Could exchange Slipknot or Muse for Florence I guess

No, it was October.

still not sure on who else it could be.

Muse will be doing a stadium tour, big enough that R&L won't book them, they are already looking at the possibility of having to cope with Foo's doing stadium dates to make up for this year as well.

Blur have to be likely, IOW and London ticket off this year, they'll do more main land than that.

I'm not sure on this Slipknot headlining. They've done a headline arena tour, and a festival headline for the 2nd time in 3 years at THEIR festival and it clearly didn't sell out this time, fairly sure it didn't last time either. Will a promoter really see the demand for them based on 150k tickets again next year? I stand by they should have done that arena tour and waited until next year to return to Download anyway.

I'm not sure if Muse will be doing a stadium tour. I think they said they wanted to tour the UK early in the year, and I can't see them doing stadiums in the same year.

I would of thought they'll be using that time end of Nov/early Dec to do a European Arena Tour and then Stadiums? You realize touring the UK doesn't exclude stadiums?

Matt said in an interview (at Big Weekend I think) that they're coming back early next year to do a tour.

I do recollect that yes, he does actually make a point of it being early next year the UK. Should they not be Stadiums then there is a chance as IOW won't be happening, nor will Glasto mind.

They said late this year or early next. And they did arenas late in the year and stadiums in the summer last time.

I can't see where they did arena's and stadiums on the last tour the same time? It looks like 2012 Oct/Nov Arena's and May/June Stadiums?

I think its very possible that we see Shikari sub next year

R+L love bumping people up the line up ad they progress and Enter Shikari are doing some arenas on this next tour. We'll see how well that sells but I'd say they've achieved about as much as BMTH and are getting about as much mainstream press as them too so I could see that happening

If not they'll be NME headliner

I wouldn't automatically say that, there has been cases like Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and Primal Scream who have headlined Glasto and sub at R&L in the same time frame or a like for like example with Flo, Ash who were a last min replacemenmt for Glasto but never headline R&L in all the times they have played.

That wasn't relevant to my point at all.

I'm saying we won't have two brand new headliners. I don't think they'd book that. I think if they did they'd have to have a ridiculously strong third. A lot of people will see Flo (maybe less so now shell headline Glasto) and FOALS as weak headliners

Flo's current tour isn't even selling as well as I thought it would, although I haven't checked since the other day

If they do Ally Pally now and don't get above NME headliner next year, that's probably as high as they will get.

The only issue with Shikari is its quite niche, like most Shikari fans are like diehard fans, you rarely see a casual Shikari fan. They're obviously growing as they get bigger and I could see them headlining Download eventually but I don't think they'd ever get past sub at Leeds purely as they haven't got huge mainstream appeal.

When I first heard them I didn't like it at all but it's grown on me to the point now where I love them but loads of my friends love shikari so I've had to listen to em a lot but its not really accessible or a popular genre.

The thing is with the tour as well, some of the dates are just academy sized and they've had to/felt the need to announce the support as well at the time. Most of the time support will just be announced later unless they were doing dates that promoters felt needed that extra backing. I personally don't think they will be sub. Disclosure, Imagine Dragons and a host of options IMO could be 3rd that will stop Shikari getting there.

I know a few. I'd say half of the people I know like Shikari are casual fans. Also about getting mainstream Radio 1 got behind a few of there singles, round about the same as they did with BMTH

BMTH are tipped as a future headliner whereas some bands are never gonna be accepted as that. Enter Shikari are one of those and the reason they've probably moved up the venues is because their academy tours keep flying out and they can make a bit more money this way. Their slots at festivals have gone static and they're not gonna make a rush up the lineup now. They'll just join All Time Low and Gaslight Anthem in doing big venues but getting middling slots at the festival because they're too niche an act to be a real draw for the fest, but enough of a banker to stick on the bill anyway.
