It's going to end up as I've said before, the demand won't be there anymore for Leeds to continue.

I'm probably biased as a Reading goer from way back when but these things are better as a one off for me.

For example seeing Nirvana at Reading and all the build up being 'Would they show up?', 'Is Kurt dead?' etc, these days it would just be 'well they played in Leeds yesterday' so yes of course they will. Gives it more of an event feeling rather than a travelling circus.

Just saw Sum 41 announced a new album, not sure how big they are these days but I'd love to see them do double duty on Main and Lock Up / FR like JEW last year. Also I saw Evanescence announced a first live show in years, if Download / Soni don't snap them up I'd love to see them.

I kind of regret not going to see Sum 41 at the Kasbah in Coventry, it was one date but £20 was a no for me. I thought he'd be on shit form too. Evanescence will ne snapped up by one of Download or Soni, not playing R&L.

It was like that for GNR in '10 because of the hissy fit at Reading.

And kings of Leon in 09....

That's not really relevant to the "Leeds gets rid of the excitement of not knowing whether a band will turn up at Reading" (paraphrased ofc) thing, is it...?

In fact, these situations only had any excitement over that because of there being two festivals.

That's kind of the point I was making, you still get that happening (not knowing if a band will play) whether there's 1 fest or 2

Its great news! I can definitely see them playing the main stage in 2016, probably about 5th down. The offspring are also writing a new album apparently so it would be great if they made a return too.

I read some link that someone posted on the Offical Download Forums earlier that said about Rage Against The Machine possibly bringing out a new album and planning a tour towards the end of 2016. Its most probably rubbish, but if they did bring out a new album and were available for UK festivals, I think that R&L is where they would end up. With that in mind:

Foals

Disclosure

Catfish and The Bottlemen

Don Broco

Lower Than Atlantis

Band Of Skulls

PVRIS

As It Is

Moose Blood

Years & Years

Kodaline

Florence and The Machine

The 1975

Two Door Cinema Club

The Wombats

Of Monsters and Men

Wolf Alice

We Are The Ocean

Circa Waves

Turbowolf

Deftones

Neck Deep

Rage Against The Machine

Enter Shikari

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls

Brand New

Of Mice & Men

Sum 41

The Wonder Years

Beartooth

Black Peaks

The Vaccines

Slaves

You think there is more chance of Shikari subbing than ID or FOB? FOB 2nd album took off pretty well and to a Reading crowd the 2nd album would do well. Shikari can't even sell out 10k tickets in the capital lol. I don't think The 1975 will quite do enough. When Paramore did 2012 Exclusive there wasn't really any reason for it, the festival love bringing their favorites back.

I haven't gone for Flo as I'm not sure it'll be her. If they get her as well as them two I think it'll be the strongest 3 headliners than any festival has next year. Only Biffy, Foo's and FM at Glasto could rival it I think.

Enter Shikari can sell 10k tickets in the capital. London will probably sell out, not so sure about the rest of them, last tour sold out fast as hell. Either way if we're going on Readings current standard of sub's, I think Shikari is a possible as they're a favourite and I'm sure they'd like to bump em up if they can, just like they have BMTH this year

A band not playing was an example, there are many ways that if it went back to being a single festival it could be better. More investment in a single site for example, bigger bands/stages, more going on outside of the music, things like that.

I guess what i'm saying is that the festival lost something for me when Leeds came along, hard to put your finger on it but it was never quite the same. You'd see a band come on who had found themselves on the mainstage and are genuinely blown away by playing to a huge crowd for the first time (now you are only going to see that reaction 50% of the time).

This is not an anti Leeds thing by the way, I don't mind if it all moved there rather than Reading.

The reading site doesn't really allow that type of expansion though. It'd be a logistical nightmare. Either way, I can't see me doing a full weekend at either site ever again unless they start booking more bands I like. That's not going to happen anytime soon.
