Download 2016

I actually prefer a 'greatest hits' set from a headliner - especially when it's an older band.  So System playing older stuff, given they haven't been around that much would suit me down to the ground.  I groan a bit when a band plays a new song - as I won't know it.  SOAD's new stuff won't sell the tickets, it'll be on the prospect of seeing Chop Suey, Sugar, Toxicity, etc.

Slipknot stepped in at 2013, Aerosmith get headline slots on merit of their legendary status same as the Metallica's Maidens etc. And your last comment is laughable, where did you get the idea of Kanye West, all I was saying that having System headline again on the back of nothing would be nothing special.

Not necessarily, your post has a definitive tone to it though, when in reality you can't know for certain that foo fighters won't be there. Or that the other two must be there.

It definitely has a definitive tone in it. SOAD and Sabbath is saying what everyone else is. With Foo's I don't have proof no but what we do know is, they've done R&L over Glastonbury each time and presumably were asked to do Download before last year. They took a non paying really fest over Download and provided Reading are in for them next year which is more than likely given Foo's schedule then Download doesn't stand a chance.

Many of us see SOAD as legendary. The Kanye west comment was meant to be ridiculous, just as ridiculous as you suggesting that SOAD shouldn't be considered. Sorry this needed explaining.

Sorry devilman, you can call SOAD legendary as much as you want but they aren't and that's not even comparin them to the higher names in their field, they aren't even close. They're a decent sized metal band that don't often play. The legend part is your own belief from how much you like them.

Legendary may be a push, but they are one of the big bands of the late nineties/noughties that still can headline a festival - probably in the same category as RATM, Blink, Linkin Park, Slipknot etc.  I guess legendary is saved for the oldies like Maiden, etc.  But once these start dying off/retiring, it's the bands like SOAD that will fill their places on the line up as the classic headliner.....that makes me feel old.

Three out of four you mentioned can headline all 3 UK Festivals they'd get booked for, 1 being Slipknot can definitely headline two of those, R&L is till maybe in question but I'll say while they probably wouldn't do it without it, they may not be wanted for it. I'm not sure they do much other than headline Download every few years/Soni when it runs and not at Download. SOAD won't headline bar Download/Soni. IMO, if you have that legendary status you can headline anywhere. SOAD won't be replacing your Maiden/Tallica/Sabbath as the next legendary act, they'll just last longer. hey have never been, nor will ever be regarded as, as bigger of a band/the same influence etc.

SOAD could easily headline R/L. In 13 they were the best act there excepting maybe Biffy who put on an amazing show. They would sell tickets too as they have more crossover appeal than maybe the likes of Sabbath. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are bigger than bands like that, but then they haven't been around for as long. Which 90s bands are bigger than SOAD and legends in their own right?

Exactly!

There's a fair few bands of that ilk that were headliners at DL / other rock festivals that have dropped in standing - Limp Bizkit, Korn, etc, but SOAD have stood the test of time and can still headline DL/Soni - that shows to me that they can become legendary act if they keep going.

R/L is an odd festival now and their placing of bands often confuses me - largely because I don't listen to much new music - but I wouldn't really use that as a yardstick for metal/rock bands as much as I used to.

I don't get why they are legends in their own right? You can't use Sabbath as comparison when they don't fit R&L demographic at all. Metallica and Slipknot are both younger and will openly admit to owing every thing to Sabbath. No band really owes anything to SOAD and I like the band so I'm not slating a band I dislike. If they could easily headline it they would have been asked but weren't. They weren't only not asked but a bigger band than them were and the both of them combined on probably the strongest overall day still didn't sell out. Could have got a ticket the day before.

Haha, and people down vote as their view isn't the truth.

I'm back in the frame of thinking that BMTH will headline next year.

Bring Me The Horizon

Limp Bizkit

Disturbed

Alice Cooper

System Of A Down

Deftones

Stone Sour

All Time Low

Black Sabbath

Whitesnake

Motörhead

Bullet For My Valentine

Swap Limp and Bullet and I agree with that

Limp Bizkit subbing main stage? Since when could this happen anymore?, surely no higher than 3rd. I think this is a good shout.
