Matt42
Don't go and see it, it's a horrific film.. Put your money elsewhere... Don't even be curious to see it. Got asked to go and see it with a girl i'm seeing and it genuinely was the most uncomfortable experience of my life. We were the only Young adults in a room full of what looked to be OAP's and groups of Middle aged women. The script, the acting, the premise, the concepts, the sex everything... The movie is offensive! Twilight is better than this! It's probably the worst film I have ever seen, but I wasn't really expecting it to be great, but it was worse than my expectations! feral chile
Oh don't! My friend wants t see it, and she's guilt tripped me into going along. I'm already going with an extremely negative attitude, after hating the first book.My husband knows women who have gone, and they've loved it.Apparently, she gets all hers out but he doesn't get all his out.I think that amounts to the plot and character development, in one. Matt42
What did your girlfriend think of it Matt? Laughed though it, which is a nice thing.. If she genuinely got invested in the tripe and enjoyed it I'd have been dissapointed!

Yoghurt on a Stick
Why go to see a film like that when you can log on to xhamster at home and whack one off in privacy?
Amy Lawn
Matt, do you think this girl was using the film as a way of introducing her tastes to you? Think about it, when you go on a date with somebody, you're doing stuff together to find common ground with that person. Take somebody to see an anime film and you're saying "Hey, this is what I'm into, I know you haven't come across it before, but I think it's something you might enjoy", take somebody to see an S&M film.... I really don't understand the hype. Do none of these people have the internet?
lost
So on a scale of mainstream films how bad is it sex wise? I noticed it got a 12 rating in France.. Surely can't be as bad as the nymphomaniac which is probably the worst mainstream film I've seen. The bit where she sucks off the paedo, I was like

The bit where she sucks off the paedo, I was like Heavy nudity and they pretty much have sex on camera but the whole BDSM thing has been toned down a lot, worst you see if her getting whipped a couple of times naked and chained to a bed blindfolded whilst he does his buisness... jump
I’ve not seen it or read the book and I get that it's shit/trying to romanticize an abusive relationship but one thing I’m curious about is if at the end of it she leaves him because he’s a c**t then doesn’t that validate the film? bunique
so all the things he does to her arent consensual then? No - there are points where she says stop/no in the book and he continues, coerces, cajoles

In the 3rd book apparently they end up married with kids. So maybe it is the ultimate female fantasy? Take an exciting and dangerous guy and turn him into a domesticated pussy? jump
so all the things he does to her arent consensual then? No, from what I've been told he rapes her but she leaves him at the end because he's a c**t so if she identifies the relationship as wrong then the outrage about it romanticizing abuse isn't valid to me. Take an exciting and dangerous guy and turn him into a domesticated pussy? Wait, she knows he's a c**t and leaves him but goes back to him so does he reform or does he carry on being a c**t? If he carries on being a c**t but she just learns to tolerate it then that's just a weird ending. Edited February 18, 2015 by jump

bunique
Something else that pisses me off about this book is that it perpetuates the belief that those who are abused as children grow up "damaged/abusive" themselves.
LondonTom
Well that was rather obvious it was going to be worse than twilight. Isn't the book based on twilight fan fiction or something? Take somebody to see an anime film and you're saying "Hey, this is what I'm into, I know you haven't come across it before, but I think it's something you might enjoy", That you are a bit peadoy? Should fiction be shackled by having the responsibility to have a moral standing? Just a thought.
kaosmark2
Should fiction be shackled by having the responsibility to have a moral standing? Just a thought. No. That said, the best fiction, whatever the genre, will offer new thoughts and perspectives on humanity/society.
