Going to a Festival solo?

Hey! This might be a silly thread to some people, but it's a topic I keep thinking about recently! Basically, I want to go to a couple of festivals this year, I used to go to quite a few each year back in 2004-2009 but since then only the odd few. I used to always go with my 2 closest friends, however one will be 8/9 months pregnant around July/August and the other has a new baby, so not that interested anymore and also can't afford it. So I'm kinda stuck on my own. There's a couple of festivals that I really don't want to miss out on this year, but I don't know if I could do them alone. I'm a female in my late 20's, and have always loved festivals and music concerts, but I'm not sure if I will really enjoy it if I'm on my own. The thought of awkwardly waiting for acts and walking around the site alone scares me! Anyone have any tips or advice, or have done it themselves? Thanks! :-)

Solo is fine once you get over the initial nerves, I done Glastonbury and Bestival "solo" last year pretty much. Keep an eye on these very forums, more often than not you will find a bunch of people wanting to arrange a meet up, which helps alot as its somewhere to go and meet up so you know you won't be not talking to anyone for the whole weekend.

The band waiting is fine really, it actually gives you more time as you can sneak off to somewhere else and still get back to a decent position by yourself....or I've normally found someone will start talking to you if you look friendly enough while waiting.

Joruney there/home is a bit shit as travelling on your own can be, but once you are on site, your just one of the crowd :).

Listen to Tom. You may even bump into people, I've seen him at my last three festivals.

Edit: & you get to see a lot more stuff as your not tied down by other people. Organise to meet your campsite neighbours for bands later on in the day if or after hours at Glastonbury/Bestival etc, you might end up watching a band or DJ you like, if not (& not pregnant) go to the bar & get a drink in.
