stuartbert two hats
Very handy, thanks. Stuart, maybe you could add this to you original post as I'm sure many will find this useful.I certainly will, but can someone write some very simple instructions to go with it? I suspect most people don't know what IFTTT is and fewer have used it. Nice work community, particularly kabillion! I suspect most people don't know what IFTTT is and fewer have used it. Nice work community, particularly kabillion! I'd do it but I didn't even know these existed until a few minutes ago! Looks very useful for those that need it though (and I'm not even sure I'm in that group). If nobody's looked into it before this evening I'll have a crack and post how I get on. the wonderwhy
In terms of instructions: 1) Click link and create an IF profile 2) Add the 'twitter' channel by authorising access to your twitter profile 3) Add the 'SMS' channel by entering your mobile phone number (remember to include the country code '0044' before) and then entering the PIN number you receive via text 4) Click add and the command should now be under 'my recipes'. As long as you have twitter notifications on for @secretglasto you should get a SMS every time that account tweets I'm pretty sure that's it. All I had to do anyway, although I had both an IF profile and the app downloaded beforehand (I'd just never used it). EDIT: Might be worth adding that if you're doing this via iOS/Android, you'll have to download the app first Edited June 16, 2015 by MattDavies__

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you need to enable twitter notifications for the sms to trigger. I think IFTTT will keep polling the account even if notifications are not enabled. One to test this week Edit: To be clear, I mean at the twitter end. You have to have the reciepe & twitter channel enabled at the IFTTT end or it won't work! the wonderwhy
Yeah I wasn't sure on that either, obviously no way of knowing until we test it I think you're probably right though, would make more sense that way.

big__phil
There's also an hour gap between the Radio 1 Essential Mix & Dutty Moonshine later on in the evening, I think this will be where they end up playing. There isn't - it's a typo apparently. The essential mix goes on until 4. The Andy C thread has more details on this.
FrankieX
I just tried the IFTTT tool with an active twitter account and it works with my Orange PAYG phone. For what it's worth, I'd suggest editing the SMS message format from "@{{UserName}}: {{Text}} (via Twitter {{LinkToTweet}})" to something with less characters like "SecretGlasto: {{Text}}", the reason being tweets are limited to 140 characters and SMS texts to 160. So long as there aren't 20+ characters (including spaces) in addition to {{Text}} then it should always be limited to a single text per tweet, something which annoyed me about the official Twitter text notifications. One thing to note is that it also sends you replies (Public tweets starting with @Username, which are normally hidden and weren't sent via Twitter's mobile notification) sent from the target account and there appears to be no way to disable this. This means you could get half of a twitter conversation sent to your phone, with no context and (if you're on Pay As You Go) still costing you money. EDIT: Well not costing you money because even PAYG plans don't seem to charge for recieving calls, but still costing battery life and storage space I guess. Space Shanty
Given my tech-dinosaur status, can I just check that by turning tweet notifications on for the Secret Glasto account, this will do the same job (kind of)? So when Secret Glasto tweets, I'll get a notification on the front of my phone (or along the top bar or wherever you want). Cheers

FrankieX
Excellent... I was getting embarrassed at my lack of nous there! I assume IF is for those without a Twitter account? Good idea IFTTT requires a Twitter account to work. IFTTT (or Twitter's Mobile Notifications) are for people without smartphones who want to receive the tweets from certain accounts as text messages. The advantages of this are you aren't taking a £100+ phone to a festivals where it might get broken/lost/caked in mud and non-smart phones typically have enough battery life to last the whole festival.
