IFTTT requires a Twitter account to work. IFTTT (or Twitter's Mobile Notifications) are for people without smartphones who want to receive the tweets from certain accounts as text messages. The advantages of this are you aren't taking a £100+ phone to a festivals where it might get broken/lost/caked in mud and non-smart phones typically have enough battery life to last the whole festival.

Ah yes I get ya now.

Equally good idea mind you.

Not a fan of taking the 'good' phone around Glasto when in a state

Generally speaking, how often do you get "big" bands doing secret sets, and how often do people find out about them in advance? Genuinely curious as last year's Glastonbury was my first and I'm looking forward to being a lot more knowledgeable about what's going on this time around!

I just tried the IFTTT tool with an active twitter account and it works with my Orange PAYG phone. For what it's worth, I'd suggest editing the SMS message format from "@{{UserName}}: {{Text}} (via Twitter {{LinkToTweet}})" to something with less characters like "SecretGlasto: {{Text}}", the reason being tweets are limited to 140 characters and SMS texts to 160. So long as there aren't 20+ characters (including spaces) in addition to {{Text}} then it should always be limited to a single text per tweet, something which annoyed me about the official Twitter text notifications.

One thing to note is that it also sends you replies (Public tweets starting with @Username, which are normally hidden and weren't sent via Twitter's mobile notification) sent from the target account and there appears to be no way to disable this. This means you could get half of a twitter conversation sent to your phone, with no context and (if you're on Pay As You Go) still costing you money.

EDIT: Well not costing you money because even PAYG plans don't seem to charge for recieving calls, but still costing battery life and storage space I guess.

Don't think I'm going to bother getting it if I'll be getting a text every 5 minutes of people replying to some tweets. That'd be annoying as fuck and I'd be checking it everytime just incase it's a friend texting me or its a secret set announced

Well last year when MuppetMark ran the account he replied twice, the other 26 tweets were regular tweets. Of course this year it will be stuartbert two hats so he might handle it differently, assuming he even gets the password to the account in time.

On that topic, maybe it would be a good idea to set up a second Twitter account just in case the handover of last year's account doesn't happen for whatever reason. Something like @SecretGlasto2 or GlastoSecret? People without smartphones need to set up the texts with IFTTT or Mobile Notifications before they leave for Glastonbury because there's no way for them to do it while on site.

He's been in touch a few times to say it's going to happen. There are just over 2000 followers, so I'd rather not confuse things. I have faith in him (even if he is a Muppet :) )

Have created another recipe that will only show the message in the format of:

secretglasto: <tweet>

I've created an "IFTTT" recipe for people on a network that doesn't support twitter Sms service.

Oh ace! (Seen the updates to! So cool!)

Was going miss this, as data connection drains the battery to much to have on all the time (and can be odd at Glastonbury) and I don't think twitter gives the notifications when you connect again.

But this solves it all :D

There's also an hour gap between the Radio 1 Essential Mix & Dutty Moonshine later on in the evening, I think this will be where they end up playing.

That's a typo, radio 1 have the essential mix listed as 1-4... There's no way Andy c, friction or spor would place for less then an hour

On further reading I see this has been covered, apologies

Stop the press. PM received. Test tweet incoming.

Unless he decides not to, given my unethical behaviour making a private message public and all.

Fantastic! On a purely selfish level can I ask you do it quite late so I have enough time to get home and set it all up?

Thanks!
