Newcastle fans are in a catch 22 at the minute though. Most (if not all) want Rafa to stay and try to get us back up and are fearful if we go on the offensive against the owner that rafa will decide he wants nothing to do with that. Probably why they will delay Rafa leaving until after sunday to avoid too much backlash. Either way the club is a shambles from top to bottom and Rafa was the one positive for the fans to get behind, if/when rafa goes we are left with in limbo once again. Ashley needs to go but he gets too much money from us even if relegated. Sigh.

Must hurt Newcastle fans that it was a disliked ex manager, managing their arch rivals that helped relegate them.

It's possible too that it could be another ex manager that replaces them in the top flight in Hughton.

Yep. Gotta give credit to Sam for turning it around, even if the turn around wasn't spectacular. It was enough, and that's what they got him for.

And, I guess, it shows the stark difference in attitudes by the owners both clubs. S'land have been quick to recognise they've got it wrong and do something about it, while Newc seem to think they're incapable of making a wrong decision and so don't act fast enough.

On that topic who do people think will/hope win the championship play offs. I would like to see Sheffield Wednesday back, but my gut instinct says Derby.

Not Hull and not Derby. Both god awful grounds and places to visit.

So I'll be rooting for whoever wins the tie between Wednesday and Brighton.

European Cup x 1 / La Liga x 2 / UEFA Cup x 2 / Domestic Cup x 2 / 5 other minor trophies incl. World Club Championship.

Overrated how?

I guess it's because he's not good enough to polish a turd. According to wiki, that's eight games in charge, with 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses.

Ryan Gigs at a much better team, Man Utd? 4 games, 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss ... and Giggs wasn't the new boy.

Plus of course two longer term managers who've been unable to polish very expensive turds too.

Yep, Rafa's definitely crap. :P

Always had a soft spot for Wednesday so hope they do it. Although I've had Hull, Barnsley and Accrington as a treble.

Sounds like Martinez is a goner.

I'd like to see FDR in English football but for some reason don't see him fitting in at Everton.

Rafa still lives close doesn't he?

Pellegrini wants to remain in English football?

Who else will be on the shortlist?

He even looked like he knew it last night too.

And on a slightly different angle, full marks to Alex Neil at Norwich last night, who's after-match interview firstly referenced his own wrong decisions thru the season.

I can't see Rafa taking it, but you never know I guess.

I think Everton is a risk for De Boer. I know Leicester won the league this season, but its generally been a league dominated by money. There are probably 6 or 7 teams with bigger spending power than Everton.

There's not many that have greater spending power that will have a vacancy this summer though.

Said it before, rafa is one over rated coach.

Lets not get bogged down in him being a good coach or not.

Lets just enjoy the fact that he'll forever have "2015/2016 season - Sacked by Real Madrid & Relegated with Newcastle" on his CV.

FACT!

They sang "Rafas going down".

Rafa starting off at Real and getting relegated and being unemployed now is glorious. Especially as Real are in the Champions League final.

Many people unashamedly celebrating it too.

But yeah, Ashley, what a twat.

Oh right. Disappointing but not surprised. He got a hard time at Chelsea and did a great job considering. Top 4, Europa League and Mata played the best football of his career under him.
I feel for Newcastle fans. With that squad, they should be around mid-table. Hiring and then persevering with Schteeve has cost them big time.

Hopefully Rafa knuckles down at St James and they come straight back up.

Really hoping he does, journos saying there is a will from both sides for it to happen. I don't think he will stay but then i never thought he'd join with us doomed. He very nearly got us out of it.

He won 2 in 9.

Massive clear out required and a rebuilding job - really can't them walking away with the title like last time Newcastle went down, with or without Benitez.

Or flip that around, we haven't lost for 5 games. 1st time that's happened since 2014.
