He won 2 in 9.

Massive clear out required and a rebuilding job - really can't them walking away with the title like last time Newcastle went down, with or without Benitez.

I think our only hope of walking away with the title is if we keep both Benitez and Townsend while having the right balance everywhere else.

No idea what'll happen next season, we could well end up struggling or we could have a comfortable time of it. Guess we'll see.

On the plus side, low-travel cost away days so might be able to get to one of our matches for the first time in 3 years. Bristol City, Cardiff, Reading all very easy. And at least we can't lose yet another fucking derby.

Really haven't a clue on the next Everton manager. A big name will obviously want a big budget and it still isn't clear if its Kenwright or Morshiri who hold the purse strings currently. Could be anyone from Martin O`Neil upto Mourinho.

Frank the farmer seems to be favourite and would be ok, seems to have a good youth record with ajax but no guarantees in a more competitive league.

Do you want Pulis?

It's not 1985

O'Neil is obviously a long shot and going to have his pick of clubs upon leaving R.Ireland but if the rumours of Moshiri being the gateway into the club for Usmanov when Kroenke takes full control of the arsenal I'm sure he could satisfy his spending habits. In the mean time we can dream and hope our new Billionaire owner throws us a few quid.

Absolutely football is all about the dream otherwise why do be bother. But Mourinho isn't going anywhere near Everton this summer regardless of how much money Moshiri has or hasn't got.

Same odds as Rafa and O`Neil with Ladbrokes currently at 16/1, De Boer favourite by miles though.

What do Newcastle fans think of Dummett at present? He has hardly played for Wales, so I have not had chance to judge. I suspect it's borderline if he makes the cut.

Decent leftback without being too impressive. Reasonable positioning, some pace without being lightning, can cross and shoot but a bit inconsistent at both, better tackler than most fullbacks his age. I like him and like that he'll likely stay, think he's a lot more solid than Haidara and he's been more consistent over a 6-month period than anyone else who's played LB for us in recent years.

He's not a bad CB either, but his positioning there needs a bit more work/practise.

Mental. Finished 13th and an fa cup semifinal. What Watford fan wouldn't have bitten your hand off for that at start of season.

If Leicester and spurs hadn't improved so much this season, manager of the year would have been between him and bilic for me!

I think I would put Howe ahead of them. That's a pretty mediocre squad who were ravaged by injuries early on. Maybe Flores has the Valencia job lined up.

Also I like the Manics Euro song, not that I'm bias!

Solid defensively, strong in the tackle, decent in the air and good positional awareness. He's poor on the ball though, and offers virtually nowt going foward. He could end up being a centre back eventually.

Must hurt Newcastle fans that it was a disliked ex manager, managing their arch rivals that helped relegate them.

It's possible too that it could be another ex manager that replaces them in the top flight in Hughton.

I wouldn't even say he helped relegate us really, Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley relegated us. Ashley let Charnley make the key decisions, and the appointment of McClaren was a step too far. Carragher got it spot on the other night when he said Charnley took too long to sack McClaren because he didn't want to admit his mistake. It's cost us big time now, and it's a disgrace if he keeps his job.

I'm fairly sure if pretty much any other Premiership manager had that team at their disposal, they wouldn't have got relegated. McClaren was never up to the job. He should have went after a few months, but the really baffling decision was to keep him when we had an 18 day break. That would have been perfect for Rafa. There was a big improvement in performances under Rafa, but it took him a few games to work out his team.

I am just praying Rafa stays now. I wouldn't blame him for leaving, but there seems to be some positive sounds coming out about him being keen to stay after falling in love with the fans. He will be making sure he gets all of his demands signed on a contract before he agrees though. Let's wait and see, but if he does stay my optimism will be increased massively. If he stayed and got us promoted, then sorted us our properly, he would be a hero here.

One final point. You know when you are watching SSN, Soccer Saturday, and listen to the 'experts' such as Merson, Tony Gayle or whoever else, and they tell you that we only accept our own or someone with a connection to the club as manager, or the drivel about us not accepting cockneys. Well you don't get much further from geordie than Rafa, and he is absolutely loved already. It really fucking annoys me when they bring that line out about us wanting the likes of Pardew or Allardyce out in the past. There was a good reason for it. It's not our fault if they get replaced with the likes of McClaren.

RANT OOT.

Dummett is probably our worst starting xi player

Technically yes. He's one of our most solid defenders though. He isn't constantly out of position like Janmaat on the other side. He is fine when he sticks to his limitations, although he is obviously frustrating when he lumps it up the pitch when he shits himself. He won't be a problem next season, he will be solid for us in that league.

Merson does my head in when he talks about Newcastle. Doesn't have a clue.

Yeah, i imagine he'll get on fine in the championship, it's his level.

I think  keeping Rafa could be the difference between keeping the likes of Towsend and Perez, or losing them. They will have interest, but if Rafa ends up slogging it down there for a year, then maybe he might be able to persuade them. Janmaat, Sissoko (thank god), Wijnaldum and possibly Krul will be away.

Townsend*-----Shelvey--------Colback-----------New player

I think if you keep most of that team, and just fill the squad out with some experience like we did last time around, then that should be strong enough. We will definitely need another right back, centre back, midfielder and striker for the squad though

That suggests he has a clue when talking about other teams!

If Wales take 8 defenders he will probably be the last choice, so championship level is fine with me.

Lots of hope there in terms of good players staying, and expecting consistency from Shelvey seems optimistic. In terms of "New Player", Aarons would surely start in the Championship if we keep him?

I'd rate Darlow over Elliot. Nowt wrong with Elliot, as a backup Prem/Championship player, but Darlow looks more promising.

May well end up playing that Ivan Toney kid we signed last summer a fair bit as well.
