What I meant was in the past Man Utd had a way of getting some decent milage out of some average players. I suspect these types will no longer get the chance to play 100+ games, due to the pressure on managers for success which will lead to more of a buying culture.

Youth will still be given a chance, it's up them to take that chance. Man Utd gave the most chances to acadamy players last season, out of all the premier league clubs.

I'm feeling OK. I like our signings, Mitrovic in particular. My worry is CB. Mitrovic/Perez/Cisse are all good striking options, Siem De Jong can slot in behind nicely. Siem/Perez/Wijnaldum behind Cisse/Mitrovic looks class to me. It's just whether we can get 2 good CBs out of all our sketchy options.

Has de Jong played in pre season?

Didn't he miss the entire of last season injured?

Praise the lord we have a manager that will drop a superstar, put in players that cost nothing.

That's how they get a chance isn't it?

Putting aside my comment being tongue in cheek, you and I both know that any manager would rather their purchases worked out and made them look competent than a random kid they've little to do with the development of comes thru.

Without question, not everyone manager would leave players like rvp/di maria/falcao on the bench though.

Although under perfoeming players is how kids get chances.

Although LVG was in a strong position where he cold get away with having a pretty mediocre season, which makes it easier to gamble with some kids. I suspect Moyes would have been put under far more pressure if he had dropped big stars (You can imagaine the headlines now about how he couldn't deal with big players)and Im not sure LVG and future managers will be given so low expectations in the future. I suspect the chances for the youth at man utd will go down, but time will tell.

watching the charity shield yesterday it occurred to me that the chances for the youth at Arsenal has gone down in the last few years, too.

That's more their youth coming good (coq, Bellerin, the ox, the etc). They will still use younger players sure.

Also, arsenal looked good yesterday. Definitely in the title race I think

yep, lots have come thru previously, but it's now pretty much stopped - which is what I realised yesterday.

I'm guessing it's Wenger knowing these are the last set of players who he'll get to have in their best years.

Has it? Bellerin and Coq came into the first team last season. When has it stopped?

I would say it has slowed but is still a lot healthier than the likes of Chelsea, City and Liverpool. I feel like Wenger is more selective with the youth prospects these days. Whereas a few years back he would chuck in a lot of players and hope a couple stand out, he now ensures the two or three he does play are good enough.

I know he can be quite erratic but..... only £2.5m for Rafael?!

I guess that's another to chalk up to the idea that Brazilians don't do well in the Prem - tho I don't think that idea really stands up.

Zlatan is looking for an out. AC Milan apparently but would love to see him in the Prem.

I guess that's your best hope of a decent striker now.

BTW, I love the Man Utd low-cut women's footie shirt. Blatter would approve. :P

Is there an Efests FPL getting started up this year? Happy to co-ordinate it if needs be.

I did it last year so I just renewed it now. Everyone who was in last year should just be able to click a rejoin button, but for those who didn't/can't:
