Football 2015/16

Predictions I've seen from the media is United to be around 3rd/4th, which won't be to far wrong.

Guardian has them coming 2nd (as an average of the predictions of all their footie writers).

I can't see that myself. The new line-up would have to click and go well from the off, and after last season I've little faith in LvG to manage that.

I reckon there's more chance of Liverpool's new line-up taking them to 4th than there is of Utd's getting them 2nd.

Much as I hate to say it in this thread, particularly when he mentions Liverpool, but I think Neil is spot on here.

Even Nal acknowledged yesterday that Liverpool could go very well *if* the players click. I feel pretty much the same. I don't really expect them to click and go well, tho. I just think the players as individuals have the skills to do that in the right circumstances.

And from the opposite, I don't really expect Utd to go poorly - but I don't think it's impossible, as LvG looked so clue-less last season. But realistically, I expect to see Utd in 3rd or 4th.

It'll be interesting to watch how both of these teams perform this weekend, so we've got more info to work from.

Man Utd's squad numbers are out. Memphis Depay has taken the #7 jersey as expected. I find it strange that Shaw has changed to #23 and Darmian is #36 when the #2 was free after Rafael left. Schweinsteiger has taken the #31 and Fellaini has switched to #27. Schneiderlin and Romero take #28 and #20.

Do squad numbers have a meaning anymore?

Ridiculous statement. Herrera was the only one with legs in midfield for us last year. Only time our defence was left exposed was when Carrick didn't start. I'd argue that's why he's brought in cover.

Same formation as last year. Schniderlin in for Fellaini. Depay in for Young. Carrick/Schweinsteiger to alternate. That's what I'd go with.

In pre season, the problem we've had is the two midfielders don't make attacking runs and we become predictable.

DDG

Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw

Schweini/Carrick

Herrera Schneiderlin

Mata Rooney Depay

That's the obvious lineup for me with the current squad.

Well, no DDG tomorrow, and LVG has pissed of Valdes.

Even if DDG stays, i can see him being a lot worse this season as he will have on eye on RM next year

I would have thought establishing himself as Spain's keeper would be a priority in a tournament year, therefore no room to take his eye off the ball.

I predict he will play so badly, they will let him go over Jan

I would have thought he is Spains number 1 keeper regardless of this year?

yeah, cos he was so much more brilliant than Moyes in those few games as manager last season, eh?

At least he had the dressing room!

Yeah. If you make it big you can use them as a marketing tool..............thats about it really.............oh and 1 usually signifies a goalkeeper

looks like WHU have got a luvverly olympics stadium contract that's designed to suggest better value to the taxpayer than is really the case. ;)

Paying for my cheap season ticket ;)

I know they're not the only club to not take the Europe League seriously but when are West Ham actually going to be in Europe again? May as well take it seriously, or at least more seriously than playing a full team of reserves.

You've got it all wrong, we rested players as we will be mounting a title challenge this year and hence 3 points away at Arsenal on Sunday are much more important :P

The style of football is light years in front of the dross we've had for the last 4 years. Have a look at Payet when the season starts, I think you'll like him.

I quite liked Lanzini for the first 30 minutes to :P

Playing devils advocate a little here, but should Man Utd players be wearing black armbands in memory of an ex players dad? Im just thinking in view of the fact that many ex players, staff and long standing fans haven't received the same privilege. Nothing against Mr Neville, I just cant remember footballing parents recognized in the same way in the past.

I personally think it's gone to far, even before today. Nothing irritates me more than a minutes round of applause at such and such minute for a player/fan/dog Bertie.

Also, Personally I don't like what's now become the generic "applause instead of silence." For footballers it kinda makes sense - and at first when it was something different, it was a nice touch, but for fans - not for me.

I have been under the impression the applause thing is preferred these days as it drowns out the moran fans that can't stop been morans for 60 seconds of silence

So ... Leicester top of the league after the first day. I know it doesn't mean anything, but I still don't think many would have predicted that. I've tipped them for the drop under Raneri, so it looks like I might have that wrong ... then again, it was Sunderland.

I'm guessing that Arsenal are going to be top tonight, unless Stoke hammer Liverpool again.
