So Wijnaldum confirmed. Transfer fee undisclosed but announced as 3rd highest in our history, meaning somewhere between £10.3m (colo) and £15m (Shearer). Hopefully his impact is more like that of either of those rather than the other 2 in our top 5.

Great signing!

Hopefully more of this calibre to put us back in the top 8.

Nice highlight reel that shows some good skill and movement, but.... 10 minutes of youtube videos can make lots of horrifically inconsistent players look good. The best 10 minutes of Ben Arfa in a season will make him look like one of the best 5 players in the world.

If it is vaguely representative though, him, Siem De Jong, Cabella and Sissoko is a good set of attacking midfield options. Still desperately need a striker and at least one CB.

Ben Arfa could have been a really special player.

Bastian Schweinsteiger to Man U. That's some transfer.

If they've gotten him instead of Schneiderlin I say it's a poor transfer in the long term. If they get both it's quality.

A few concerns I've seen from United fans about signing him are that he only played 28 games last season, and apparently he's being let go because a midfield of him and Alonso was too immobile and easy to break down. Based on that if he plays alongside Carrick it'll be the same situation, but alongside Schneiderlin/Herrera or something he should be alright.

I like him, though. Will be nice to see him in the Prem if it happens.

Edit: Ah didn't realise it had been confirmed. Fair enough.

So delighted Delph is staying. Was totally gutted after his 'loyalty' speech in January that the press were reporting this as a done deal.

If he hadn't said all that stuff I wouldn't really have begrudged him the move, but it really felt like football was completely broken this morning! ( I know it is but I am trying to ignore that & him leaving after banging on about loyalty just waved it right in my face)

So now - my faith is restored and we are happy people!

Schweinsteiger is only 30, many have performed in this league at that age.

But he's been on the decline for the past two years. I've watched a lot of Bayern and he's not the player he was. Used to be a very mobile player in his peak. Utd are in trouble if they play him as a 2 with Carrick. Schneiderlain for £10m more would've been better, given his age.

I still think it's a decent signing though. He's won everything and will bring that winning mentality to utd. Will probably help attract other players too.

Also, anyone whose name translates as Pig Mounter is alright by me.

I wonder if a club at a lower level than city, higher level than villa come in for Delph.

Maybe a Spurs, Everton, Southampton.

He won't leave now, not after he's spoken again about being loyal to the club.

Delighted he is staying, thought we would miss his leadership on the pitch , especially in midfield rather than his ability, even so I think he will improve again under Sherwood.

Southampton aren't a higher level than Villa either, no way, just cus they're in a good period right now, there was a time that Villa were finishing higher than Liverpool and we were consistantly finishing in Europe place, didnt mean we were a higher level than Liverpool.

Everton have an absolutely stacked midfield already, and in terms of club status they are also same level as us. They don't have Europe, most of the season they were 3 points ahead of us. They've just been run better as a club in past 5 years as Southampton have.

Spurs are a higher level however, they could offer much higher wages but I don't believe Delph would leave regardless.

In terms of players leaving however, I can see Utd stepping in and picking up Benteke from under Liverpool's noses as theyre fucking around so much.

Of course Southampton are a higher level than Villa. You may not like it, I don't like that they're a higher level than Newcastle, but that's the facts of it at present. It's not just a season or two of success, it's sustained improvement despite the squad changing. Southampton and Everton can both sell a key player and not be drawn into a relegation fight, unlike Villa, and unlike Newcastle.

He has possibly gone a bit stale. For all the praise (something I have never particularly agreed with) oneI club players get, I think the likes of giggs and Gerrard got stuck in a rut to some extent staying in the comfort zone of 1 club. I think man utd need a little more experience and look forward to watching him.

Schneiderlin worries me slightly as you get the impression Southampton make players look better than they really are.

I wouldn't say he's stale due to being at Bayern so long, I just think his age is starting to catch up with him. Still a great player and, as you said, his experience will count for a lot. I don't think Man Utd fans should get too excited though - not gonna catch up to Bayern by buying their squad players.

Agree Gerrard was in a rut. Should have gone years ago - had the potential to be one of the greatest midfielders ever. Same applies to Rooney imo - should have left Utd when Fergie did.
