Without TV coverage it’s highly unlikely it would have become anywhere near as big as it has. It wouldn’t have required so many staff or as much infrastructure. The demographic would be very different and wouldn’t demand or think they “need” the world’s biggest stars. Continuing as it was certainly was an option, although the super fence was needed, which kinda illustrates why it would have been fine, we didn’t need to TV to tell us what to attend. Personal experience tells me that just as much, if not more, fun can be had at smaller events, they’re certainly more comfortable. Big acts aren’t necessarily better. Try some of the smaller events and be surprised as the headliner you’ve never heard of “blows your mind” I’ve said before, but an “out of control monster” has been created and there’s no obvious way to put it back in its box: Re Glastonbury getting almost uncontrollably big, I often think “just because you can do something doesn’t necessarily mean you should”

As soon as Nic Roeg set up his camera in 1971 it was the beginning of the end. -

Getting tickets close to the fest is never an issue. I do think they won't be as cheap as usual this year but it will still be possible to grab them. There are always people who's plans change last minute. -
All the best with this. All I can say as a bit of a binge drinker in the past is that about 10 yrs ago I had to cut back because of a blood disorder that forced me to change my drinking habits. That was inadvertantly a great change for me and I still enjoy a drink but with less quantity and cutting out a fair bit that I now realise was just routine/habit. Probably benefitted me mentally more than physically tbh. Good luck with it😉 As for Glastonbury generally, am by no means ultra fit but used to do a fair bit of running and more latterly cycling, and go to the gym a fair bit. Last year I found it fine as a 55 yo being out from 10am until the early hours each day (and stayed up at Worthy View last yr so a fair trek). There is lots of walking but it's broken up such that I don't really notice the miles build up. Deffo worth getting into the habit of walking if don't already before going (and in shoes you are going to wear at the festival).
