Pukkelpop 2016

Muse have got to be big contenders for a headline spot Good fit for the festival, they're around during PKP and they've already had their (4!) Belgian shows sell out. Not entirely to my taste but at least they're a proper headliner.

So something like Muse / Chems/ LCD / NGHFB /PJ Harvey/ Disclosure would be a return to form and credibility.

I can't see PJ Harvey and Disclosure happening because of big spots at Rock Werchter.

Massive Attack are playing Croatia around the Pukkelpop weekend. If they want a return to form, they book them rather than bumping up NGHFB/Foals to an unreasonable headliner status.

Didn't notice PJ at RW. Have removed her and added Massive Attack.

Hi everyone, just thinking to go to Pukkelpop with some friends for the first time, but you know, we are seeking to have a good sleep each night, some many yeras spended on tents, so... you know if there a place with some kind of preerected place? or somewhere to park caravans? maybe tippys with beds to rent?

I have been in other festivals with this kind of accomodaton but I don't know if here is the case...

Thanks!

Never camped but there's no pre-erected tents. It's fairly basic camping and pretty cramped camping from what I gather.

So we could conceivably be looking at Muse - Kings of Leon - LCD Soundsystem - The Chemical Brothers as our headliners. Don't believe that will be the exact combination (mainly because I'm never right!) but think most people would consider this a return to form if it does pan out.

I haven't done any digging around to check but reckon we will get some Frequency news this week. We usually share at least one headliner with them, plus a fair bit of the undercard, so that should give us some good clues as to who we can expect.

Had a quick look on the V forum and the two main rumours there are Kings of Leon and Justin Bieber. I don't think there's any chance they'd go for the latter but there's no escaping the fact that with the new stuff he's released he definitely appeals to a much wider audience and, dare I say it, is more credible now. From a business perspective it would make perfect sense (tickets would sell out and he'd be popular with a lot of the younger demographic) but it would be way too much of a musical swing towards 'pop' for the festival. I thought Calvin Harris in 2014 was pushing the boundaries of acceptability but, playing devil's advocate for a minute, how different is Bieber to Ellie Goulding, who went down a storm last year and was one of the most popular acts of the weekend?

Frequency news is definitely coming this month, they've hinted it to be at the back end of Feb though. No reason why it wouldn't be the 4 bands you've mentioned.

Main thing is, there is a healthy pool of headliners available plus there will be acts that haven't announced tours yet.

Absolutely no excuse for a poor top end of the bill this year.

EDIT - I'm pretty convinced that we will share Muse with Frequency, if the're announced for Frequency it's 99% for PKP for me.

And regarding Bieber, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned up at PKP. Chokri's daughter is a massive fan (pure speculation but I think she had a big influence on last year's line up) and it would please the screaming teenage girls. It'd make sense as well if we get Jack U, which I think we will.

The two reasons why it won't happen is the fee. He's rumoured to be getting paid a million quid for the two V performances and it'd destroy any notion of credibility Pukkelpop has got as an 'alternative' festival left after last year.

It's amazing how many great bands are headlining european festivals this year: Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, The Cure, Arcade Fire, Pixies, Radiohead, Muse, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Neil Young, Iggy Pop, Black Sabbath...

I can't remember last time we got so many amazing bands in Europe from June to August.

I don't have faith in PkP. I can see Kings Of Leon as the big headliner with some crap like Limp Bizkit, Jack U, Fall Out Boy or Lost Frequencies at the top of the bill. Justin Bieber would fit perfectly in PkP new direction.

Nowadays, the best thing that could happen is than the million euros band chosen by chokri is Muse, instead of KoL, but Muse played last year Werchter and this year they have 4 dates in Brussels. so I doubt that any belgian (or european) Muse fan, haven't seen their Drones show yet. They've toured the album for 2 summers in Europe, so that makes them less attractive for me (I saw them last year), but they are much better than KoL

Good work johny, where did you get these names from? Can't see too many headliners in that announcement, although there's quite a bit there I think (and some I hope!) will be at PKP - Foals, Die Antwoord, Jack Garrett, Parkway Drive, M83, Bloc Party and The Temper Trap. A few we hopefully won't see as they would be repeats from last year - Rudimental, Limp Bizkit and Parov Stelar. Some interesting names in the 'dance' list towards the bottom - Dub FX, Extrawelt, Rusko vs Caspa and Roni Size and Krust would all be welcome.

Looks like Massive Attack is becoming a main contender for a headline spot. If Pukkelpop wants a return to form it would be an exquisite choice.

Agree there's now a very strong chance they'll come but do you think they're still headline worthy? Last time they played (and headlined) was 2006 and that was alongside Daft Punk and Radiohead (so easliy the 'weakest' of the three, perhaps to compensate financially for the other two?). Don't believe they're more popular or relevant now but could see them playing a late night Main slot after someone else. Maybe the Young Fathers thing will be the deal breaker to justify top billing (if they get it) but if the organisers really want to make a statement of intent then they could stick them in the Marquee, a bit like Paolo Nutini last year. They're probably too big for that but if they were scheduled against a headliner that appealed more towards the youngsters then it could work.

Will have to be careful not to fall into the 'completely unrealistic line up predictions' trap but we now know Muse, Kings of Leon, Guns and Roses, The Cure, LCD Soundsystem, The Chemical Brothers, Foals, Massive Attack and Iggy Pop are all touring and potentially available at the time.

This is PKP though so best to take a reality check - oh how we'll all laugh when Snow Patrol, Placebo, Limp Bizkit, The Offspring and dEUS get announced next month.....

Their show at Palais 12 (Brussels) last week was basically sold out. Thats more or less 15.000 tickets at 49 euro/ticket. Definitely still headliner worthy if you ask me.

While I do agree with your warning about the reality check, we have quite a lot of possibilities that have more or less been ruled out for the early Summer festivals. Thinking of Massive Attack, Muse, Kings of Leon, LCD Soundsystem, The Cure, Oscar & The Wolf (yes, wouldn't be surprised if they're (co)headlining as a Belgian exclusive). So the 'all interesting names have been taken' excuse won't go up this year.

Could see something like this:

Massive Attack - LCD Soundsystem (dance closer/coheadliners)

Noel Gallagher - Oscar & The Wolf - Chemical Brothers

Kings of Leon or Muse - Jack U (or Muse just closing the day since they're huge)

With Foals and M83 being Marquee closers.

I'd be happy with that, over the moon in fact. The negativity over last years headliners/subs won't go unnoticed and hopefully will be acted upon

For some time now I've had the feeling that Galantis will be one of the closers. No idea why, just seems like a good fit. I don't think LCD will close one of the nights and I'm pretty sure Foals won't settle for anything less than the main stage

Yes exactly. When you have to resolve to social media censorship and even your media sponsors openly complain about the lack of real headliners, you know you're doing something wrong.

That's also why I had put LCD Soundsystem as a dance closer. They've never been huge and these reunion headliner spots feel really forced. I think that they'd just bring another round of criticism if they are the actual day headliner. And that's why I was thinking of a role similar to Macklemore in 2014: party closer after a headlining name, yet top billing on the poster.

As for Foals, they'd have to agree with a 6-7pm slot on Main Stage then. Currently seeing a lot of signs that their Brussels show of next week is going shit, and that's barely a 4000 people venue...

We are forgetting that PKP is promoting the Festival as a 4-days event. Maybe Main Stage will be open on wednesday with a "cheap" headliner topping the bill + Dance Closer. Oscar And The Wolf would fit in perfectly. My bet is:

Wednesday: Oscar And The Wolf + Lost Frequencies

Thursday: Limp Bizkit + Bring Me The Horizon + Dance Closer

Friday: Noel Gallagher + Foals + Dance Closer

Saturday: Kings Of Leon or Muse +  LCD Soundsystem
