To take you to the first unread post in a topic you still click on a round icon (or a star icon if it's a thread you've posted in), but that icon is now to the left of the topic title rather than to the far left of what displays about that item.

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

I presume it's a a part of the new browser notifications, which is a part of this latest upgrade.

Errrrmmm .... I'm not entirely sure how they work. I think you might reduce the amount of them that you get via the settings on the notifications settings page, tho I think it's a setting in your browser to have your browser refuse them (you must have granted them manually, I think).

I googled and got a page for changing your notification settings in Chrome for sorting that, and I guess other browsers are similar.

Found it on the setting page - seems you get a notification - a black box at the bottom of the page when someone replies or something but there is also a sound option - whcih I have now turned off.

Are you able to set the default to silent - thinking about those who acess Efests from work.

It appears not.

I've just had a general google to try and find someone talking about how they coded it from their sending source (such as these forums) and there doesn't seem to be anything out there, which makes me think the sound control might only be at the device end.

I guess I should find an hour or two to read up about notifications, so I might come back to you about this in a few days.

I seem to have problems embedding YouTube clips now.

I was getting the Share link from YouTube and pasting it in under Insert Other Media > Insert Image from URL but that doesn't seem to work now.

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

You simply paste that url into your post, and then make a space beyond the url ... and as-if-by-magic, the video should appear embedded in the edit box, and will display in the post.

yeah, so I see.

I'm trying to find out how it's done - someone has managed to post one n that thread since you've failed to post in there, tho I've no idea how they did it at the moment.

There's also a current bug report for the forums software about youtube embedding, that's fixed in the next version (which isn't yet available, but probably will be in the next day or two). I'll make sure I get that installed as soon as it is available (it's only a minor upgrade so isn't a big issue to install).

where the link was sited previously caused a couple of issues, including one that made the whole site unusable for some mobile users, so it had to be changed from there, which was done yesterday.

However, prompted by your post I just checked the site on my phone and realised I'd made a cock-up with the changes i'd made that caused the new layout to not display properly on the smallest screens, so if you're looking on a phone you should (now) see either 'sign in sign up' links or a 'sign out' link in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

But the 'forums' quick-link has gone for consistency reasons. I'll have a think, tho, to see if I can come up with something that will give the 'forums' link to those getting the non-desktop display in a way that actually works OK.

My video links have now stopped working and I am doing the same as always.

They just post a URL not the actual video

 

Edit: When I choose either the share link or copy the one from mybaddress bar the embedded video briefly pops up but then when I post just appears as a text URL.
