pop up every time on android

Sorry to say this forum has been totally unusable for the last couple of days for me on android. As soon as I try to get on, a pop up appears. I've only got my phone at the moment, so have had to download the adblock browser just to post this.

Thanks, I'll get it looked into - but you need to give me more details.

Does this happen when using wifi, or your pho0ne network, or both?

What is the pop-up you see? Are you able to see any other ads on the page underneath (particularly if you're seeing the same ad each time)?

Thanks.

I'm using WiFi only, the pop ups vary, either I've been selected to win a prize, or need to update my phone or can get an iPhone 6, that sort of thing. I don't get chance to see what other ads are running as the pop ups load as soon as the page loads,  ie as  soon as the loading bar is full, the pop up then covers the entire screen. It doesn't happen on my friends laptop using the same WiFi  and who also uses chrome.

just to update this - the problem kept (keeps? - i'm no longer at that location) happening, but only on that particular wifi and only on chrome.  it didn't happen with any other wifi or mobile network or browser (i tried firefox and adblock) and with no other website, even on that wifi.

i'm not much of a techy person, so i have no clue as to whether it was a problem with this website, that wifi, a particular combination of the two, or something else entirely.

it also didn't affect the laptop we had, chrome on windows worked fine.

Thanks for the update, tho it's impossible to address these things unless you help by providing info - which i asked for at the time but didn't get.

Anyway, as you say it's gone away that's it sorted, I guess. Action was taken to try to address it at the time.

Believe it or not, but this could be DNS poisoning. A router that I was called to support had a vulnerability in the firmware that meant it could have its settings changed remotely. This router was issuing by DHCP a DNS address for something out-of-the-ordinary, which in turn was causing some specific behaviour.

New £30 TP-Link 802.11ac router from Argos did the trick.

erm ... I'm not sure that's a 'vulnerability'. On some routers it's a feature by design.

For example, the BT Hub 5. I thought I'd closed off the ports I had open - it certainly said within the router that I had - but then yesterday my NAS was alerting me to blocked attempted logins ... so I went to my NAS settings and  the NAS was able to block the open port, and then open it again (I guess I'd opened that port originally via my NAS, and had forgotten).
