temporary broken image links

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in the process of moving some of the forums hosting across to another server (at amazon's s3 service, if you care) which causes broken image links while the migration is taking place. The migration is handled by the forums software, and seems to take a while to complete.

Currently the forums gallery images are being moved across, and in the meantime they're unavailable.

When the gallery images have finished being moved, the user profile images (the users icons) will be moved - so I guess the missing images will be noticeable to everyone at that point, so I thought I'd give advance notice of it.

Once the process is complete:-

- everything should be working properly
- the forums will load faster
- the forums will have a greater capacity to keep working at the busiest times.

I'll post back here with updates until the process has been completed.

Cheers Neil, sounds like T days will be OK on the forum this year. Is there a way to upload images to my album on the mobile app on the phone (android)? I tried it tonight but couldn't find a way, cheers. It's not urgent.

because there appeared to be some sort of error with how your pic was configured rather than the image being missing entirely, I couldn't just upload your old image to get it working again, instead I had to go thru the standard user process to ad an image to your profile - which means the file on the server is not as it was previously.

If you'd like a copy of the previous image, please email me (webmaster@efestivals.co.uk) and I can email it back to you.

Hi Neil. My profile pic went missing and although I've tried to upload again there seems to be a problem. Image appeared to be too big for the circle and although I've resized it right down it looks crap. It's all pixelated now and still too big! Can you recover my original one mate?

Cheers

Trev

The previous image is attached to this post.

However, you might find it does the same thing as your new image when you try to reuse it, as much the same happened with Russy's pic. I'm not exactly sure why that might be, I guess it's to do with changes to the profile image system since you previously uploaded the image.

Anyway, fingers crossed, it might work OK, and the only way to find out is to try.

Is there any way to get the forums to render without needing to access the resources you have moved to S3, at all? Either by having a theme that either doesn't use the CSS resources hosted on S3 or some mobile version that has a simplified layout even if it doesn't have full functionality?

The reason for asking is that frequently cloud services are blocked from workplaces so it's impossible to read the forums as the CSS and other assets are all missing and the layout is unreadable.

Even spoofing the user-agent to appear as a mobile doesn't help.
I understand the change to S3 to help with load issues but it would be ideal if you had a theme that had no styling and a readable layout.
