Picking up London folk en route.

Recommended Posts

I'll be driving down from Cambridge going round the M25 from A1 to M3.

I need to pick up someone coming from Central London who will use public transport to get somewhere convenient for a pickup.

Any advise for a good place to do this from anyone who has done this before would be much appreciated.

Urgh... you're really not going to want to go into central London. Watford, as dexydexy says, or else get your friend to get a train out to somewhere like west of London just off the M25 - Egham? West Drayton? Staines?

Or tell them to get a train to somewhere off the M3, like, Basingstoke.

Or Castle Cary ;)

You could come down the A10 to the north circular, there are plenty of stations close to it and you can easily get onto the M3. I lived in Cambridge for a few years and used the route a lot when visiting home, pretty heavy traffic but I imagine the M25 isn't much better.

Thanks all.  The Egham/Staines option looks pretty good, easy to get to from central london AND just off the M25 for a pickup.  Now just got to decide whether to face the nasty rush hour traffic and try to get to worthy farm around 12 or avoid the rush hour traffic and get there around 2.  Decisions decisions.

Walton-on-Thames, one stop along the A3 from Cobham services, Junction 10, & its a commuter train station so only 20 minutes from Waterloo.

It's where I live.

Much easier to get to & a faster commuter train than Staines. & you won't get mugged. Trust me.

Or Weybridge, same as above, but smaller station & ever so slightly further away than Walton-on-Thames station due to traffic around Brooklands Tesco's & the industrial/tech park.WW.png.4913c9575919cc857df756d4f4fa9bbd.

Added a little map in my lunch break, it's a bit cold out so couldn't be bothered to leave the office. Also, it's been a while since I've been on efests so thought I'd have a browse & decided I might be able to help a fellow poster.

Thanks, good to get some local knowledge, Weybridge and Walton both look pretty good.
