rebus
I've always arrived mid afternoon on Wednesday. Back in the early 2000s you could still easily bag a spot in Pennards, but no longer. Ideally I'ld like to camp in Park Home or Dairy but am worried that they will be full by the time we arrive (probably at 1200 with a 7 a.m start). 1 or 2 pitches required. I have dismissed the overnighter in the past as I have this perception that overnight in a car + all the queuing would be completely knackering. Is it worth it? blackred
Depends, I prefer doing the drive then having a kip in the car park - find the journey down the most tiring part. Not bothered with the overnight queue, joined in the morning when it's too hot to stay in the car. Edited April 18, 2016 by blackred
balti-pie
I live about a 4hr drive away and I've never seen the benefit in driving on Tuesday night and getting a crap nights sleep in a car, or in a field next to the gate. Bollocks to that! I'll be setting off at about 6am, and I usually rock up to the gates at around 11ish and breeze straight in, then camp up at Top Webbs Ash kind of neck of the woods. Where I camp isn't all that important to me, but I know it is to some: i can't ever imagine it'd be worth knackering up my last nice bed sleep for a while though! shuttlep
i hate waiting , despise it i am travelling down Tuesday afternoon to Wells, have a nice B & B booked, wake up have a nice breakfast at 8 then head to site at nine. start the mooch in, I have friends that are all about the travel down on Tuesday and queuing to get in and getting the best campsite they can find, They say it's all part of the festival. maybe I am old. I don;t mind camping in south Park or Baileys it's far away but I had a great time there last year
whisty
Sat in the q all night last few years, last year was pretty cold, maybe 30 mins sleep. I've missed the Sat headliner twice due to fatigue catching up. This year have taken steps to avoid the all night q, that will answer your question from my perspective but I am getting on a bit! Wondering about that myself, whatever happens overnight in a car will probably be the best sleep we'd get that week anyway. I'd like to go down on the Tuesday night, being pitched up by Wednesday morning would be amazing... I don't drive though, there'll be two cars going down with us, if the drivers are up for it I am. Joshuwarr
I always arrive Wednesday morning (usually via train), but this year by coach (departing 5AM from London). I've never really had issues doing that and I'm set up by about 10/11AM most years in my favourite spot in Oxlyers. Unless there is a huge group of you I really don't see the difference it makes other than to give you an extra night of poor sleep... stuwilky
No need at all for an overnight to get into Dairy. By the weekend you'll be dead on your feet. Stroll in about 11am, maybe a 30min que - pitch up. Get on it.
Skoo
We stayed in a B&B nearby last year and left criminally early to arrive on site by about 4am. It's the first time we'd ever done this but there was a big group of us, all with reasonably large tents so we thought it was necessary. It was all OK apart from one thing. I made the fatal error of drinking beer in the queue. But apart from a couple of portaloos right at the start, there were no toilets at all on the way. I am a girl, so I can't just whip my todge out and go in the bushes as some were (naughty I know!). It was a few hours queuing with back to back people moving at a snail's pace, and I remember rounding a corner, at this point absolutely desperate, only to see another huge stretch of people and NO TOILETS. By the time we got through the ticket checks and into the festival, I was almost in tears - literally dropped all my stuff and RAN to the nearest long drop! I think even without the beer I'd have struggled, I have the bladder of an old lady! So in short... no, I won't be doing that again. Flysheet
I've not been for 13 years, but had all manner of queues getting in the times I have been, from non-existent when arriving at 2am Thursday to four hours in the car from Shepton after hitting the queue around 9am. Even Beautiful Days and Kendal have Qs at opening time. We're staying in Wookey the night before so in theory only about 25 mins away so initial thoughts are to leave the hotel about 6am and get in the Q and take whatever is thrown at us. I can't help but think we might be better leaving it an hour or two and getting breakfast before heading down after the initial rush. Flip side is we want to get into Cockmill so know we need to get there early. Happy to listen to suggestions!
stuwilky
Flysheet - the key is roughly what kind of area you want to camp in? along with how many of you there are. Edited April 22, 2016 by stuwilky
Charm
We arrived around 6:30 last year and this is a small section of the massive queue at gate D around 7am. We were pitched up in an already packed Pennards by 10:30 but there was plenty of room in the fields we passed through to get there. Can't see the point in getting there early, unless you are hell-bent on Pennards. I usually camp in Dairy and I'd say you'll find space for two tents if you arrive at 12pm. The queue usually disappears lunchtime and I walk straight in more often than not. Park Home fills up much quicker than Dairy and I'd not expect to find a space at 12pm. You might find one but I wouldn't bank on it.

Well done on the tickets. The CV tickets are somehow linked to the festival tickets, so it's either highly unlikely there will be any in the secret resale of the final final final tickets, or you could try asking if anyone isn't now taking a van and will enter the festival with you - ie their name and ticket gets you in. I'd work on during out a car and ticket as back up.
vicspoole
So if we have quite a large tent what time should we rock up? Really depends which field you want to camp in. The most popular fields, eg Big Ground and the like it'll be hard to find space for a large tent beyond 10:00 - 10:

Wicket however has loads of room, is lovely and quiet (Cockmill is a bit noisier earlier - think younger kids). Wicket isnt far from Gate A either - might be worth considering as you could rock up at 11 - very little que and be pitched by 12 ish. Hope you all enjoy :-)
Watergirl
My routine has been the same for a good few years. Stay in Glastonbury Town (the Backpackers), get up at the crack of dawn on Wednesday to get on the 7 a.m. bus. Once I got through the gate by 8:10 (I think they opened early that day). This year I am on a coach package from Birmingham on Thursday morning; not by choice but that is what I got and I am fine with that. Just wondering if I will still be able to camp in Hitchin' Hill when arriving Thursday afternoon….? Any thoughts on this? Hope you all enjoy :-) Always went in Cockmill before, normally with friends. Wicket didn't exist then and it's a fair trek from everything, inc the Acoustic where I've always spent a fair bit of time in past years and a relatively straight run up to the green fields etc. The bit about the little uns getting up early might be a prob, when I last went mine were little! My other half will be up at sparrow fart as well though! i reckon we're going for two smaller tents rather than one big one, and we'll be in the queue from 6.30 - 7 anyway if we are at Gate B
Girlwiththemostcake
We are planning on a hotel on the Tuesday night and will probably leave about 6.30am on Wednesday to get in the queue. We did discuss perhaps waiting until lunch time when the queues have died down but that was quickly dismissed because we love the Wednesday as much as any of the other days and really enjoy being all set up by 10.30am, ready to chill and enjoy the day. Also if the weather is warm and sunny (which it will be) then it's good to get the tent up before it gets too hot.
BlueDaze
we have always stayed in East Campervan (getting there Tuesday lunchtime last few years) and so never used the car parks. This year however my daughter is driving down separately in her car and is planning on driving through the night.. i assume that when you turn up (Blue route) they just put you in the next available car park..?? When you are let through on Wednesday morning does everyone walk through the East Campervan fields.? I am an early riser and used to seeing them being marched through to the Hill of Death about 07:00.. But wasn't sure if there was another possible route to Gate C that didn't take you though there. Beside Love Fields perhaps.?
Bernieray
I have travelled and queued through the night previously, however, this year we're leaving early morning to arrive mid morning. My friend (newbie) has back problems and I think I night in the queue could kill her off before we arrive!!

We now keep two of them in the glove compartment of the car in case we get stuck in traffic. Suggest you do the same.
