I'd be interested in how you managed it, I was obviously premature to rule it out. But I suspect I've still got to the point where I want to bring more home comforts than I can practically do.

Did you bring a mat and pillow as well as the camp bed?

I only jest of course Stu. He's right, I do like to load up with a weight and go wandering, so it's not as bad a deal for me. Plus I'm just stupidly stubborn and bloody minded.

In terms of camp stuff this year I had tent, camp bed, self-inflating mat, pillow, sleeping bag and a chair. Amd yep, got everything either in the bag or, with the chair, strapped to the outside. It is one of the army issue bergens with the side pouches, so it's got about 120l total capacity.

The compromise is that I don't take much booze other then spirits and some mixers; if I wanted to take cider or beer then it might be a different story.
