Ear defenders

I am taking my 18 month old to glastonbury again this year. He is really good at wearing ear defenders and slept fine in them last year when he was tiny but now he is bigger he sleeps on his side / front and the ear defenders get in the way. Have people used softer versions or an alternative while the kids are asleep in a pushchair / trailer? I don't want him to damage his ears but I also don't want him up all night because he can't sleep!
