Campervan fields - first timer

It'll be my fifth time at Glasto, and have graduated over the years from a flimsy 2 man pop up tent, to a decent tent, to a camper van. Oh the luxury, can't wait :-)

Was wondering - do the camper van fields have catering vans in them at all? We're not planning on bringing much food or cooking, would rather use the space for clothes and booze! Love the food at Glasto too, much better than instant noodles.

Also - I know you can't pick your spot, but do you tend to get closer to the festival gates the earlier you arrive? I think we'll be arriving Tues afternoon so ahead of most I hope!

There are usually a couple of catering vans at Campervan East. And people do seem to think that the earlier you arrive, the closer you'll be to the gate - it depends on where the stewards have been told to direct you at any given time of arrival.

If you're going to be there for Tuesday evening then come along to the planned meet at the top of the Hill of Death around 9pm to watch the sun go down and the lights go on. Look for the pink flamingos and you'll find a bunch of efesters all doing the same thing.

A few, of the brekkie/burger variety. Not the good stuff you're referring to. Worth bringing a bit of food for first thing, to tide you over til you get inside.

Ah I am yet to experience the Hill of Death, is it really that bad? Thanks for that - any other tips?

It's just me and my husband this year, normally have a load of mates going so will have to make some friends this year!

Great, thanks - yes in that case will probably bring some tinned stuff for mornings

Compared to anything inside the festival fence, I can't recommend anything from the field caterers, I've only seen burger vans and breakfast bars, so I'd advise treating them as suspect emergency food and bring snacks, but eat within the festival proper (I tend to bring the food and booze, and reduce the clothes).  I think you'd get to nearer fields on Tuesday, but stewards may have been told to mix fields up and fill the further ones up first.  The hill of death isn't that bad, just a last climb after battling the crowds and leaving places/stages at 2am before getting to bed.

I've done it twice when we came by coach and stayed in a caravan, so clearly we brought a finite amount of food.  I think we brought cereal bars, fruit, tea bags, etc and then as others have said purchased on site.

You can get a bacon butty if you need one in the morning and we also bought milk from one of them, just as it was easier than buying from the proper milk stalls down within the pedestrian gates.

TBH I see other people doing their own stuff and sometimes staying at their vans longer, whereas it can be quite nice to get on site and then be able to pick and choose whatever suits your appetite at that time.  There's a great thread in here with confirmed food vendors where they have also put rough locations.

Me and the missus are doing exactly the same. Also CV first timers. In CV west.

Might see you there!
