Don't give up the day job!

oh, you can almost guarantee that if I make a footie prediction on any single match the results will come in differently.

I'm much better with predictions over the longer term - as will be proven by Liverpool getting a top 4 place and Utd failing to, which so many here told me I was wrong about.
(so now i've guaranteed it won't happen :P)

Didn't you predict Walcott becoming a super player in the long term. I think most of us are probably equally bad at making long term predictions, but we all throw around enough shit that we savour the bits that stick!

isn't he currently Arsenal's best striker....? :P

I stand by what I said to a large degree (which i'm pretty sure was "England's most important forward player" rather than what you've said), and point out that he's been unlucky right thru his career both with injuries and with Wenger not playing him when he has been fit, plus Postman Pat not taking him to South Africa and regretting it straight afterwards.

If those things had fallen different ways I'm pretty sure that would have easily stood up as true, tho in part because there's not really been any competition apart from Fat Rooney for the last decade.

Don't forget the sterling and Ronaldo comparison. :)

For anyone like me who has a soft spot for 90s football nostalgia. There is a great new football/comedy podcast devoted to that era called "quickly Kevin will he score".

One of the co-hosts is the guy that did a West Ham podcast for the last 5 years. He's about as funny as aids.

I like Josh Widdicome, had never heard of the other bloke.

Chris Scull hosted it first with a guy called James Longman who went off to LA to work with Corden on the late late show.

Scull then continued with Bianca Westwood (from Sky).

Scull is basically Ian St John without Greavsie....

Arsenal were terrible tonight. It's not even as if you can say they played well and Palace just roughed them up a bit and got lucky. Palace were brilliant, Arsenal were terrible.

Surely Arsene isn't going to sign that contract? However surely Sanchez and Ozil aren't going to either?

I take back what I said about us getting top 4. I thought the players would get some momentum from the West Ham result. It's disgusting that Wenger is given free reign at the club. At any other club he would have been out ages ago. Loyalty only goes so far, most us Arsenal fans have given him plenty of time. It's just a shambles all round. The players are bottlejobs but Wenger has to take responsibility. He clearly loves the club and he doesn't want to let go of the club he's managed for so long but everyone has to retire one day. He's a man that deserves a big win as a send off but unfortunately sport isn't always fair.

They weren't only terrible.

They started off OK, and if they'd scored the first goal it might have been different ... but when Palace scored they visibly deflated and weren't anything like the same after that.

I guess that's Wenger's CL qualification record spoilt.

As Nal says (I can't see the video though), it's the lack of fight which is most disappointing. But that shouldn't mask the lack of team of cohesion and tangible plan to our play. Absolutely dreadful last night, that second half was as bad as it gets on both a team level, and with individual performances. The away fans were having a proper go at the players by the end, and rightly so.

Fair play to Palace though, you wonder how that team have struggled so much this season. Zaha has been linked with a move to another big team, and you can see why. Starting to look like the player Utd thought they were signing. They're probably a win away from safety now, and have Leicester and Burnley (both at home) and Hull still to play.

Its easy to say Wenger should go, but I think change for change sake would be a mistake. Arsenal may have identified the man they want, but have been told he wont be available until the season after next. In which case I think there is an argument for waiting a season and getting the right person.

A 6th place finish would be disappointing for Arsenal, but not particularly out of line for a team with the 4th biggest budget in the league.

They're 16th on 34 points now with a game in hand over everyone up to Leicester in 11th. If they win the game in hand and another decent result or two they're looking at maybe finishing top half which would be incredible work from Big Sam.

OR..... it could go totally tits up. They've Leicester, Liverpool, Spurs, City and Utd as 5 of the last 7.

It just looks like they're not playing for him now though which is the main thing. And has a manager ever turned around such a negative wave from the fans? Cant remember a manager whos as much out of favour turning it around.

As you say though, who comes in?

Dreadful last night, but pretty in keeping with how we have played over the last 3 or 4 months. The stat that got me last night was that Arsenal have not won a game away from home this season after going behind.

As much as I would like Wenger to call it a day, if we don't get top 4 this year (which looks more and more likely), then he is probably still one of the best men for the job for next year, trying to get back into the CL with limited budget and less players willing to join in the summer.

I have to disagree with him staying on for another season. What does that say about the ambition of the club? He is really struggling to get any performance out of these players at the moment, and I don't see that changing next year. Sure, we might have the odd good result here and there, but that's not good enough, and shouldn't be accepted as such.
