Compost Toilets... Which Campsite are they in? Where to camp

Starting to get slightly excited now... :)

In my decision making on where to camp... the toilet situation is of obvious concern... will be coming with just 1 4 man tent.. am looking for a quietish area to camp in.. not too far from everything... but preferably near compost loo's...

As a first time camper on site... was wondering if anyone can help me with info on which campsite will be best and those which have the compost loo's.

Will be arriving around 11am on the Wednesday....

Thanks in advance

It seemed like the majority of portaloos had been replaced with either long drops or composting loos last year, there were a lot fewer portaloos on the main site than in previous years so wherever you camp you will probably be within easy walking distance of some of the composting ones.

Yeah, the only portaloos I remember seeing were outside the site (and the disabled toilets). The now permanently installed long drops are just left at some of the main thoroughfares and near the some of the stages. Pennards has long drops at the top and bottom (for the Glade and the Park) but if you're not close to some long drops there will be composting toilets.

The compost loos are great. Almost entirely smell-free. A million percent better than even the cleanest portaloo.

My only minor caveat, mostly for girls (but also for some men!), is be careful not to get bits of the sawdust stuck down your tights/leggings. It really itches!

I've just circled the toilets by type, though there's a bunch I don't remember or are new and so aren't labeled. If anyone definitely knows what some of the others are I'll update them.

  • Light Blue circle = Long drops
  • Red circle = Composting
  • Green circle = African Latrines
  • Yellow circle = Flushing Toilets!

The uncircled ones just to the East of the Pyramid are urinals - male and female.

Bugger! So all but one of the compost loos are in camping to the west. There are none in the major areas of the festival. That's a real bummer, so to speak!

Edit: Actually, I've just realised that some of the loos in the central area haven't been circled. I know there were some compost toilets at the Pyramid when I was watching the Stones in 2013. I have to say it was almost (almost!) a pleasure to use them.

I was just thinking the same, in so far as I come in from east campervan.

There are quite a few around the north east corner I don't know about - I've rarely had reason to head up there and never used the toilets, so if you're thinking of camping there there's hope yet.

There are (or were) compost toilets near the bandstand, just around the corner from the Babylon tent, but they're not marked for some reason. Other than that, all the central areas had long drops last year.

Uncircled ones in Oxlyers are compost.

Edit: It's just occured to me that I can use Glastomap.com to confirm whether the toilets are long drops or composters!

You mean you'll add them to glastomap?

I don't know it very well and couldn't spot anything atm.
