Hill of death

Hi all

Big group of us going this year and we REALLY want to avoid the hill of death. If you know, you know.

Now for some reason I can't remember whether it's at Gate B or C - we camp in Kidney Mead so C would be ideal as you can see in the screen shot.... Anyone know which gate it's at?! Thanks in advance.

The slope of mild inconveniance is just outside Gate C

Thanks, so B would be our best bet then?

I didn't mind it once or twice but when you have to keep going back to the car it's more than mild inconvenience!

I'm not on my computer at home so don't have access to pictures of the hill and a map of the incline, but if I remember correctly it's a 12m rise over 160m. That works out at an average 7.5cm rise every metre.

It really is just an inconvenience, nothing more. :)

You're going to be doing some hill climbing regardless of which gate you use.

Gate C is a relatively short but steep climb, Gate B actually goes higher but spreads it more consistently and over a longer distance.

So....... don't keep going back to the car? If you need more than one trip you're probably bringing too much stuff!

Neither Gate B or C is flat. Neither is massively problematic, hillwise.

It's at gate C but I'd take the hill of death at gate C over the looooong, continuous, steep climb to gate B any day. Last year we ended at B for some reason and going home was horrible.

We camp in kidney mead also. The Hill of mild inconvenience is your friend, believe me.

It's mostly because we are the designated tent setter-uppers as we join the queue in the early hours of Wednesday morning, so therefore need to go back to the car at least once, mostly for booze.

Thanks everyone.

I'd argue that if you're lugging all the tents your mates should thank you by lugging all the booze while you relax smugly in a camping chair!

I agree, but they're all getting the coach :'(

No problem, when they bother to turn up just tell them that you've parked in Purple 6, throw them the car key, and relax for the next 2 hours.

The Hill of Death, which I have to climb to CV East, can be a slippery slope so it's a matter of taking it steadily.  It also affords magnificent views, so don't rush and pause and enjoy the view from time to time.

The price of a magnificent view is a hill and there are a lot of great views at Glastonbury.
