The National are the only band who's goings I've left early twice due to the fact that they were so boring.

i love em (although haven't seen em live) but it's for this reason i don't really see them as Pyramid subs, even to Radiohead who i imagine they have a big crossover with fanbase wise. i can't imagine they'd pull a particularly big crowd and i also can't see them making many casuals/curious stick around. it's not very exciting or upbeat is it?

I can't imagine him playing anything off Skeleton Key live. Which is a bummer because it's an amazing album, but also completely understandable.

I just don't see how it would fit into a normal setlist. Imagine 'I need you' followed by 'Jack the Ripper'.

Stylistically, I think it would fit into a normal Nick Cave Setlist - as it's not too far removed from Push the Sky Away or some of Lyre - but I couldn't see it in a festival show, shy of maybe Jesus Alone or The title track.

But I also agree that the chance of those songs, beautiful as they are, being aired live is unlikely, which is completely understandable.

Woah woah, The National boring live? Matt's antics alone are enough to keep me interested

i'm sure that kind of stuff keeps his fans interested, but anybody else? i doubt it

they're a huge cult band - one of the biggest around right now - but outside of people who've bothered to explore their music i doubt many will've heard much/any of their stuff, and i can't imagine they're a band to have a load of fancy lasers and lights to keep people interested either  (although new album is supposedly synthy so maybe they'll go all out on this tour)

I liked The National on record, but hadn't been sure about them live when I caught a bit of their set a few years back.  Then we watched them at Latitude last year, and everyone in our group was blown away by them, including my missus, who doesn't like them on record.  Then we made the stupid mistake of going to watch Soulwax halfway through, who had always been brilliant live in the past, and were utter cack this time

i assume a Latitude crowd would be far more up for The National than a Glastonbury Pyramid crowd though. i duno, i'd love to see them do it, but Pyramid sub seems a bit big for them to me even at this stage in their career, although i thought Tame Impala would die on their arses before Adele and Beck would win the crowd over no problem winning over a Coldplay crowd so what do i know ey?

I saw the national last time they played glastonbury on the other stage (it was burning hot if I remember rightly, so was that 2010?) and they pulled a pretty big crowd in fairness. Sadly, for some reason it was a dull gig and they never really got the crowd going at all, and matt the frontman came across as a huge bellend. I was really looking forward to it and hyped them up to my mate, but they let me down badly. He thought they were a load of boring shit. I had no comeback.

But then I saw them at latitude this year and it was a truly incredible experience.

My experience FWIW

I was raised on The Bends, and 19 when OK Computer came out which sounded like The Bends x1000. After that I liked Kid A but my interest waned to an all time low with HTTT. Then I saw them live for the first (and only) time. I was worried. There were no real "hits" that I liked since OC, would I be disappointed if they played their more recent material? Wow, tracks that I assumed were just filler suddenly sounded amazing, even better than Just, or Paranoid Android! Every song sounded somehow different to the recording, so I revisited all the albums with a totally different outlook, and now see great things in all of them. Then In Rainbows came and my faith was completely restored. (Can I choose to ignore TKOL here?). And AMSP appealed to my early fandom, I can still hear Planet Telex in there somewhere. So my advice to the undecided, go and you won't be disappointed.

I wouldnt write of TKOL until you see the songs live. They are a million times better live than on record, for me.

The "from the basement" king of limbs album is worth checking out, I much prefer it to the studio album.

Ha, this actually sent a chill right through me when I realised I've got Glastonbury tickets, so I can see the songs live!

Thanks Russy

I was never a fan until a couple of years ago, friends including the friends I go to Glastonbury with are massive into them but I never got it, to me I heard stuff like paranoid android and used to find his voice incredibly whines and annoying I used to think they were just very depressing to listen to.

But then I truley listened, I sat down and listened to some full albums and realise that actually its not whiney and depressing......its quite beautiful and takes you to another level......or though I will say I still have to be `in the right mood` to listen to them, radiohead isnt party music to me its not something id put on out of the blue and enjoy, but when im feeling chilled and mellow and feel like fully taking in some epic music, listening to every note kind of mood rather then dancing round the room.....they are perfect.

Also never seen them live so these rumours make me moist.....yes?.....moist and gleeming!
