Morning all, sun worship in Filey yesterday and now back to grey skies in Shipley today. However, the tickets email has been received, so that's wall to wall sunshine. I've had the first pass on clashfinder and each day is loaded even before I see the crows nest list each day. It's a good mix of stages this year for me.

I do believe that was the most relaxing half an hour of my life so far! Is that what meditation is like? I've never laid still for that long before without going to sleep, it was nice to go into my own head and think of happy times.

Great picture Mr G.

Sort of.  The idea behind "modern" meditation (as I've understood it so far) is that thoughts, whether god or bad, are allowed to come and go through your mind without you attaching any weight to them.  So in theory it can be just as much about calming excitement as about relieving stress.

Thoughts and feelings come and go and you're aware of them, but they don't immediately impact how you feel.  So for example a thought about something stressful (maybe work) comes into your head. Where that might normally trigger an emotional reaction, or a spiral of other thoughts linked to it, instead you acknowledge the thought, but you don't react to it.  You bring your attention back to your breathing, and the thought moves on without impact.

I've been using it A LOT :)

That's exactly what it was like! All sorts of pictures popping in my head but not really any emotions with them. I was counting the 2 lots of 15 minutes down too and managed to keep count with all that was in my head. I think I need to try this meditation thingy. It was really lovely. My mum thinks I'm a bit mad, she said it's too loud and claustrophobic to be calming. I disagree. Thanx for the expanation Quark.

I'd really recommend the Headspace app.  The free app walks you through 10 x 10 minute sessions to introduce the concepts and techniques, and there's then a subscription option that opens up more content (haven't looked at that yet).

Just getting into the habit of fitting in a 10 minute session during the working day is great.  I've also found that applying some of it is really helping me get to sleep at the moment as well :)

I hope so too MJ. At present I have osteoarthritis and my knees bloody hurt. I actually hoping there's something else. I know that sounds weird but I'm thinking that if there's something else, that can be fixed, then the arthritis won't be as bad as I think it is. Do you understand? I'm not very good at explaining it haha

I'm going to get that now before I forget! Cheers

Yep, perfectly understandable. Rather something that can be fixed as opposed to something that you have to live with. Good luck for the results anyway. I hope it's good news.

Enjoy!  Flying off on holiday on Monday, going to be doing my meditation on a beach for the next few weeks

Oh Quark I like that app. I've done the first two and I think I must already do this at bed time as I slipped straight into it. He has such a lovely voice too which helps! I found my mind drifting often and only pulled it back when he reminded me to tho. At one point I was on a New York abandoned road watching a kitten play with bits of tissue floating around. All very bizarre as I've never been to NY and never seen the kitten either. I'm nice and chilled now! Have great holidays.

@naughtygeorgie I think I just breathed and counted lots and just happened to have a really lovely experience! I was more relaxed after that than I was after a blooming expensive massage! That must be awful having a panic attack in there. I can see how it could happen is you're already claustrophobic and anxious. Poor you. If you ever need another one get this headspace app and learn how to meditate. I'm really impressed already.

@MilkyJoe that's exactly what I was trying to say. Thanx

Hello!

CG, did you have an MRI? I love those! I have them once a year at the mo, I find it really relaxing! Very zen.

I'm up for meeting for NYBB at 3pm, I too will be going to The Smyths (prob meeting camping buddies for that too). I think we need to find somewhere definite to meet, for example "to the left of the cocktail bus as you look st it". I've no idea if there is a cocktail bus where we're meeting, but you know! Also, I don;t think I'll have time to make a flag, I'm really sorry. might have to go with something inflatable on a stick instead!

It does make a horrible noise, but you get left alone for an hour, and a nice lady tells you you're doing well! Lovely!!

I had to lie face down with my right arm above my head like a flying superman :(

Ooh that's less than comfortable.  Mine was a brain scan so was just flat on my back.  Surprisingly comfy!  They had an angled mirror above me so that I could see out of the bottom of the tube without moving my head, which helped

Haha. NFR is back true to form. I've just had a lovely nap aided by Quarks app recommendation. Yes @lucyginger I had an MRI. And it is very loud and clangy, but I had headphones on which muffled the sound and made it sound more like a lullaby! You know when you're on a beach and you're not relaxed and all you can hear are dogs yapping, kids screaming and seagulls laughing, and it's annoying? Now imagine you're on a beach, lying down, sunshine warming your eyelids... all of those sounds then sound soothing and of happiness and it gives you a warm glowy feeling? That's the only way I can describe it.
