What time to arrive?

A couple of years ago when I went to V I remember it taking about 5 hours to crawl from the M6 (southbound) to the car parks and when we got there the Red campsite that we were aiming for was heaving...

There's a few of us this year and so we need a decent sized pitch, so we're planning on setting off at 5am (it would be a 1.5hr journey without traffic). 

Is this way too early? I'd rather get an extra hours sleep if it's not going to make much difference!

I have heard that V isn't as busy as in previous years, but if anyone has any experience of coming from the M6 Southbound it would be appreciated.

I use the M6 south but tend to come down through Penkridge rather than the junction they say to use.  I have about a 2 hour drive and we leave around 6:30 and normally on site by about 11.  

Leaving at 5 with 1.5 hour drive you'll be fine.
