Making the most of my first Glastonbury

Nothing exciting I can add that hasn't been already, but I will reiterate this one: Look after your feet!

I've only done two Glastonburys, but I knew before my first that the thing that had nearly always let me down at festivals in the past had been my feet. It was actually never my feets fault, rather my own, because I'd not given them a second thought and packed totaly inappropriate footwear (in my youth I once brought espadrilles to a festival FFS, was it any wonder that by Sunday my feet felt like they were about to fall off and I could barely move)

So ideally get some comfy waking boots, some gel insoles and some 1000 mile socks, as well as some plasters for if you do get blisters (although if you get some 1000 mile socks and you shouldn't ever get blisters)

I find myself getting quite competitive with my excreting if the cubicles either side are in use. The months leading up to it are like preparing for the Olympics, then you get your moment to perform and there's no looking back.

Five minutes later I take my last wipe, emotionally drained, physically spent but ultimately triumphant.

So there's the best tip, if you see Woffy and myself enter the longdrops, for the love of god don't get into the next one along.

Right, Friday morning Other Stage longdrops is it then? Just in time for the opening strains (snigger) of the Other opener?

Has anybody sold this idea to Ant & Dec; The Saturday Night Long Drop Challenge - got to be  a ratings winner.

We camp in Darble usually so get in touch if you want to camp near us? We are a friendly bunch consisting of A Dad/Son/Cousin and 2 first timers this year. Will be arriving Wednesday afternoon also!

But above all, explore,discover and relax!! There is NO place on earth like Glastonbury!

HI Bud im part of camp solo we are a big bunch who all know what its like to turn up on your own. Weather you want to travel round in a group or wonder on your own its great to have someone back at camp even just to say hi you would be more then welcome.

my personal advice is glasto is great but sometimes can be overwhelming and you can feel lost just take sometime out and chill by yourself its fine not to be rushing around seeing everything all the time

Buy one of these, you won't regret it. All our team have them and swear by them, even if it doesn't rain they make a great groundsheet to stop and sit down, if it gets covered in mud just rinse it under a tap.

Hi, this will be my first Glastonbury and I’m starting to get proper excited. As it is my first festival since IoW 1970 (64 in case you’re wondering) I’m sort of assuming that the festival experience has changed in the past 47 years and so I’m after a few hints and tips. Bit of background;

  • I’ve got a ticket (that was like a military operation – is it always like that?) and the balance due date is in my diary.

  • I’m coming on my own.

  • I’ve booked Nat. Express from Northampton, due to arrive mid-afternoon Wednesday.

  • I’ve read Tort’s FAQs (twice).

  • I’m excited by Radiohead and Foo Fighters, hoping for Angel Olsen, Diana Ross and Mark Lanegan but I’m particularly looking forward to seeing bands I’ve never heard of.

  • I’m finding the webcam strangely soothing.

So what I’m after is hints and tips on;

  1. Camping – arriving at gate A, do I head east towards Lime Kiln/Hitchin Hill, South towards Darble/Pylon/Rivermead or join up with Camp Solo who I think camp in Darble? A long walk back to the tent really doesn’t bother me.

  2. Making the most of my first Glastonbury.  Let me know what you think I really ought to do/see and things that a newbie might just miss.

Thanks in advance.

1. don't fall asleep in a long drop

2. don't fall asleep in the sun

3. don't fall asleep in the mud.

all of the above I have done and hated, so as long as you don't do that you will be fine

The bastard Earth will rotate and what was once lovely shade will turn into glaring sun.

As already said, accept in advance that it's likely you'll have a moment of "why the hell am I here?!" when everything seems a bit too much effort.  Also have faith that not too long after something will happen to make you realise you're exactly where you're meant to be.

West Holts and Avalon are great for just hanging around without a plan.  As is The Park.
