First time at Glastonbury, a few questions about the disabled stuff

I've read loads of info about people's experiences on all aspects of Glastonbury, one area that seems to be rather under-represented is that of the experience if disabled. I guess I don't really know what to ask about, so would just love to hear some people's experiences about that aspect. One question I do have, though, is how does the disabled parking work? We're staying with family in Bristol on Tuesday night, so will be making our way from there. Do we just queue with everyone else and get directed last minute?

I'd appreciate any and all comments people have on the matter. Many thanks.

Although this is quite an old blog, the facts are extremely helpful. Have you applied to use the disabled facilities? Have a great festival! :Dhttp://www.gorge.org/glastonbury/onnastick.shtml

I have checked that one out, it was a good read! Yeah, we successfully applied for disabled camping, parking, viewing platform and shortcuts.

I have no doubt we will have a good festival. My girlfriend has never been to one and my only large festival was V Fest 2011 and while it was a good experience, the general commercialism and bullshittery (duct taping cans to various parts of my body to smuggle them past security and not be forced to drink Carling) bothered me by the end.

@guypjfreakhas mentioned the name of the person who oversees the tickets for those with disabilities, and she may be able to give you more details. Old son, any advice?

Hi old son

No you queue in the disabled car park and then there is a bus that will take you straight to spring ground.... There are shuttle buses that will take you to different parts of the festival and unless it's bad underfoot they run really well all day..

If you need to get about there are scooters you can hire I think that might be in the blog if not I think they were £25 a day.. I think..... Again there great as long as it's sunny which it will or carlosj gets it lol please note I think you have to order these motors..

Camping.. Well that's the same but there are grids unlike outside of spring ground so that is one thing you may want to think about cos I don't know if they fill up from one end and work across the field.. Slodge.. Will know this.. But if they do depend on where you want to be depends on what time you queue up which in turn depends on when you'll get a bus in.. So the earlier you queue the earlier your in.. Make sense..... We start queuing about 5 latest.

You'll get platform passes for you and your carer but not for anyone else also you get to use the loos.. O there are loos, showers and a fireplace that everyone if they wish can sit around.

If you would like any more information just pm me and I'll help all I can.. G

Thank you, guypjfreak, that's really helpful. It's my girlfriend who is disabled, however, it's not a linear disability, there are good days and bad days. We're very thankful that the facilities at Glastonbury are so inclusive, it means if she's having a bad day, she can still continue to enjoy it to its fullest.

We chose not to go the route of the 2-for-1 tickets for her and a carer (me), as it's both of our first time and we won't have another chance for a while, we didn't want to miss out. I am listed as her +1 on her disabled application though, does that mean I can still join her on the viewing platform if she needs to use them? Also, did you mean you start queuing by 5am at the lastest?

Many thanks.

I was asking for my wife, and the steward on the platform said that 1 carer can go on the platform too.

If you're going to be her +1 then, if you've not missed the deadline, it'd make sense to get a refund on your ticket.

The reason why we didn't go for that option was because the disabled applicant can buy their ticket initially, the free +1 ticket is from the resale. We really didn't want to take a risk at not getting two tickets.

I appreciate everyone's help and advice.

Indeed, we only cancelled the ticket originally bought for my +1 yesterday. Have to be certain first. :)

Oh, we didn't think about doing that. The deadline has passed now, too. Oh well! Is the PA ticket any different to me being listed as her +1 on the application? I mean, with regards to taking shortcuts together and what not.

Deadline has not passed.

The PA ticket is you being the +1. If your girlfriend has confirmation of a PA ticket you use that for your admission and do not need the one bought for you!

The website says the ticket must have been bought in the resale and the deadline for the resale applications in the 2nd of May. I understand that the refund deadline isn't until end of business tomorrow, but as her ticket was bought in the initial wave, she doesn't qualify for a PA ticket.

Ah, I thought you already had confirmation of the PA ticket from your posts. Mine was bought in the initial sale and qualified. At least you are at the greatest party on earth!

Yeah, I won't lose any sleep over it! We had confirmation of my girlfriend's access to the disabled camp site and so on. I didn't explain it very well. She put me down in the list of people accompanying her (just me though), but it's not a PA list.

Will I still be able to join her through the shortcuts and what not, even though I won't have a PA ticket?

Yes even without the PA ticket you'll be able to go on the platforms and through the short cuts but only if you are with her. She'll get a pass on a lanyard that she can pass on to you so you can accompany her.

Does anyone know if they allow extra people go through the short cuts?

I'm PA to my wife, but this year we have two friends with us, who have never been to Glastonbury so wondering whether we will be able to stay as a group?

Also I've never used the bus as we usually camp in the family camping but my daughter isn't coming along this year, just wondering whether it's worth using ie are there long delays waiting for it to fill up to the accessible camp site, and I presume that there is limited space so my two friends would need to walk in via the gate and meet us inside?

Any help would be appreciated

It is just the PA who is allowed to accompany the person through the short cuts as you need to show your lanyard/wristband. This also applies to the viewing platforms.

No idea about the bus, but I am sure someone will reply. Or drop an email to disabled@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk

Have a great festival! :)

PS Shuttle bus for disabled person +  PA only too. http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/deaf-and-disabled-info/wheelchair-accessible-shuttle-bus-service/
