Hugh Jass
Leicester have bid £10m for Evans. Ten million? Are they taking the piss? Especially when they're bidding £16m for Maguire. Treble that figure and maybe we would talk

At 29 he's in his prime, a seasoned international and has won titles and played Champions league football. There is no way he's worth less than Maguire, even in this mental market. I disagree. At the end of a prospective 4 year contract he's got minimal re-sale value and any potential fee will reflect that. 30 minutes ago, Hugh Jass said: There is no way he's worth less than Maguire, even in this mental market. I don't think clubs think as much about resale value these days in the wake of the latest TV deal. Leicester dropped £25m on Slimani last season who was 28, RVP, Bolasie, Pedro, Luiz (twice)... all late 20's, all went for fees well in excess of £20m in the last few years. Arsenal were happy to pay £20m for Vardy. Resale value no longer as much a concern as it was, clubs think a lot more short term these days. mjsell
Maguire is certainly not worth £17m. The world has gone mad.

Defenders tend to last longer than attackers, we have a 37 year old starting regularly for us (not for much longer hopefully). If Evans takes care of himself he's still got another 6 or so years at the top level.

Not many clubs 'drop' £30m on defenders, not many clubs 'drop' £30m on defenders who are nearly 30 years old, not many clubs 'drop' £30m on a defender of Evans' quality. He ain't worth £30m ! Gucci Piggy
Wasn't Evans seen as a great prospect until he had injury problems? I thought he just came back from them, was no longer seen as having the potential to be good enough for United and then moved to West Brom who seemed like his level. Similar to when Phil Jones and Chris Smalling move to smaller teams now they're clearly not gonna become good enough for a title-challenging United. It more down to Evans not stepping up as the main player as rio and vidic were coming to the end. Which is a bit unfair as those 2 were immense for Utd. It's the position that Utd are still struggling to fill adequately, which is perhaps the biggest problem at the minute. He got heavily criticised for his performances by fans and media, he made the right choice in re building his career elsewhere.
