The F&B improves this by blocking out the sun, but generally the air around the tent would still be cooler than inside.

 

So TL:DR, yes open the vents.

Fairy lights are the way to go. Seem to work better in the blackout than a lantern/torch

Last year was my first time in a F&B, I woke up the first morning thinking "ha! all the hype, they don't work, it's plenty bright in here" then I opened the zipper and nearly went blind hahahaha they work!!!!
