Maybe I’m being a bit of a fraud because I too will miss this and probably find a line up that suits me better. I just think they’re obviously trying to consciously downscale the event and they’re choosing quality acts worth their salt from a variety of backgrounds rather than doing the easy thing and finding old chart toppers. And the atmosphere attached to some of these acts further down the bill seems to indicate that they want people to have the time of their life at 3/4pm rather than just kill time and shuffle between stages. I just feel like people looking at the headliners and writing it off are maybe missing the point.

I actually had the same reaction after the first announcement as they hyped up the last headliner to be huge. Just a really disappointing announcement after all that hype & speculation.

What I loved so much about Bestival was the nightlife and a decent headliner always kicked that off. I didn't mind drinking and socialising during the day and discovering different tents/areas. Bestival unfortunately doesn't offer that to me this year.

I guess they were to some extent playing the same game as Victorious in getting big names on the touring circuit but it’s definitely refocused now. I’ve been to Victorious and I did like it but the fact that only one band plays upwards of an hour (which has been introduced since I went) across the whole day and it’s just a conveyor belt of names clocking in and out, it’s clearly directed at people who see different things in attending festivals.

Good point, hopefully they're lax on letting people bring booze into the arena...

Ok I think I love this booking, because it's just going to be an absolute party isn't it?

I mean Diplo and Ronson are both absolutely MASSIVE worldwide - I'm still not really sure if they're technically headliners or not (or what that even means really), but I think it's going to be great regardless. Not many things as good as a Friday night headliner that is just fun.

Bestival have got me back on board, just nabbed a ticket.

Have an upvote just for the lovely positivity :)

The line-up looks thin in the middle, not just at the top, to me sadly, but each to their own obvs.

Never going to happen now they share the site/logistics with CB and have a smaller budget etc, but It would have been amazing for them to bring the old main stage back from a few years ago - Used to love how they decorated it, that big owl in 2014 was great (Seem to remember staring at it for a good five minutes whilst I was wonky).

Fair play to RDB, he clearly cares deeply about what people think about the lineup he curates. It shows what thick skin people like him (and even more-so the Eavii) must have. He's spent a lot of time on twitter today replying to punters, can't think of many organisers that would do that.

I like his conviction, shows he’s truly spent time working on this line up and delivering something he’s proud of! Much nicer than the spineless corporates.

I reckon anyone that goes to this will have a wicked time. Regardless of the lineup, its incredibly rare to find a festival in the rest of Europe like Bestival. Actually feels like you're celebrating in a proper festival rather than an oversized warehouse. Check out Caravansarai & the Jaegerhouse they were my favourite places last year.

I, for the most part, am looking forward to the line up personally, but then i also know if and like several of the dance acts/djs. The line up is important to us (i will also be taking my children along) but so is what else the festival has to offer.

Admittedly we usually go as a family to Camp Bestival. We don't do the kids stuff really as they are olderand we have been regulars for years and now more interested in the actual music but the variety on offer is amazing. I loved the Caravaserai and other random acts placed around as well as the bigger more well knows acts. Leftfield were brilliantly amazing last year, but my children disagreed!

I just won tickets for this, on twitter from RDB.

Well up for it - MIA, First Aid Kit and Chaka Khan - big up yourselves!!!!!!!

I never win things - I'm over the moon.

How did you win those tickets? I hear you ask. I guessed that Rob had Quavers for breakfast.

Nice one. :)

There's lots of festie tickets to be won on efestivals over the coming months - and I'm often surprised how good the chances are of winning. If you don't try you can't win.

You'll find the active comps here, as they go active:-

(the next one to go live is likely to be for TRNSMT tickets).

Does anyone know if cheaper tickets to this are likely to crop up closer to the event?

Maybe someone will sell theirs on at a loss if they change their mind or are unable to go - but I wouldn't expect anything from the Festival itself at least not on full weekend tickets.

Even a couple years ago (the last one on the IOW) when it sold really badly and they reportedly lost a lot of money even after making a huge amount of last minute cutbacks, I think that the only real concession to that was to offer Saturday only tickets. From what I remember those tickets were limited to certain groups (I think IOW residents and members of The Cure mailing list) and only released like 2 or maybe 3 weeks before the Festival. Can't remember if they were a third of the price of a weekend ticket or if they had a steeper discount on them though.

Thank you! May as well grab tickets now then - heading straight to volunteering at Boomtown the next day haha

Right, in for this! Despite the fairly tragic (main stage) lineup this looks the best overall package for the fallow year to me and my fellow knights of the round table - non-music attractions, Caravanserei and general sense of fun ranking highly. Have only been once before, the Cure year, so will probably be back here a fair bit asking questions of those who went last year.
