long hard season for WHU

Have really made the most of their recent run of good fixtures.

Similarly to arsenal, it was probably a good thing they had their tough run early in the season, ton of players still bedding in would have dropped points anyway at that point

I still fancy Arsenal for top 4. I just think they have a more rounded squad. If Hazard gets injured Chelsea are screwed.

If Spurs had the mentality to win the title they'd have done it in the year Leicester did. Without them signing a genuine world-class player who's already won something and can lift the dressing room, they're not going to seriously compete for the really big trophies.

Dunno, signing pogba and Sanchez hasn't really helped Utd.

Spurs have the 6th highest wage bill, so coming 2/3rd is great by their standards. I'm amazed they get any crticisim tbh

Because they weren't signings that fit into what they needed. Also they had a turd of a manager who didn't know how to use them.

Don't Liverpool have the 5th? I haven't seen recent figures but I'd assume so.

Liverpool could obviously Fuck it up. But 6 points at top with half the season gone is clearly a great position to be in and I don't think it's silly to see them as favourites. 16 wins and 3 draws is a great record.

it's a great position.

But it's unlikely that Liverpool will go the rest of the season unbeaten which means they're going to be dropping more points in the 2nd half of the season than the first half, while we all know that City are good enough to get over their current wobble and perhaps go the 2nd half of the season unbeaten themselves.

It's a long way from over without Liverpool having to 'fuck it up'. Just a normal season playing out how seasons do might be enough to see them drop to 2rd or lower.

There's no trophies for being top at xmas. It's how you do over 38 games that counts.

Reds are one VVD injury away from 5th.

I disagree.

The defence was tighter before VVD arrived after Robinson started to make his mark. It's also better with Gomez in there, TAA is improving defensively, and with Becker behind them.

Plus the midfield is improved so fewer attacks get to the back line.

I'm not trying to minimise the extra VVD brings, but the improvement at the back is down to more than just him.

In other news, Moreno is unhappy with Klopp and wants out.

Well, yes. I'm just saying Liverpool are the clear favourites. And I don't think city will go the rest of the season undefeated  (and certainly not winning all 19 games needed). They've been rubbish (relatively) all over the pitch for the last few games. For palace and lecister, they scored the first goal before conceding to lose. I don't think the issue is something which can be solved quickly.

That's why I'm surprised. I've not seen anything in there performance or results which makes me think that Liverpool won't win the league

Well apart from 19 games left.

For me the run in is going to be interesting how Liverpool handle the pressure, the pressure of expectation will be stifling in the last half dozen game if they still have a points gap.

Liverpool going nearly 30 years and potentially winning the league is huge. United had it in the early 90s when we should of won the league a couple of times,  united buckled under the pressure. They’re not ’clear’ favourites partly due to this, also partly due to the fact if city get a kick in the ass they can win 19 on the bounce.

Ha yeah but that was an exceptional collapse. They lost 5 games in 5 weeks or something? Liverpool won't collapse like that.

Assuming LFC can beat Arsenal the City game is a season maker/breaker. Could be either a 4 point gap or a 10 point gap after that game.

Oh it was ridiculous, but I can see Liverpool replicating it, particularly if they get a badly timed injury.

Liverpool won't go unbeaten this season. Even if they beat City they'll lose at least 2 games. The question will be how quickly they recover from a defeat with the pressure on.

It'll be fun whatever the outcome though.

I will put down @eastynh predictable disappearance down to Christmas celebrations. :santa:

My predictable disappearance was down to working a 12 hour shift on Xmas eve, Xmas day, Boxing day and yesterday. Worked the lot so I could pay for my Glasto camper van and have a few quid away towards a hospitality ticket if I fail in resale.

In regards to the football, we have had a blip, shit happens. We get to play Liverpool at home next week. We have been in this position before with Scousers getting giddy, it's nothing new. If they beat us at home next week then fair play to them. I am more worried about us at Southampton anyway

The drop off without Fernandinho is unbelieveable though. That needs looking at in January.

That’s a toughy, I’m on a similar run on night shift over New Years.

They seem very calm tbh at the moment. That napoli game at anfield, they were hardly panicking for example, and that United game.

I think it's unlikely city just need a kick up the ass to win 19 in a row
