Did it not work exactly as intended? It's not perfect and needs work but don't think it could be considered ineffective last night.

But fam...

The lino literally flagged for offside and stopped. He's in line with the play. Perfectly positioned. VAR then goes and shows ONE angle that's ten times worse, ref overrules the offside and gives a pen?!

How did it work exactly as intended?

Ah right sorry I only saw it briefly and thought Kane had been correctly shown to be marignally onside. Honestly didn't realise they only had that one angle.

I still think if it was used correctly it could be a positive addition.

All good. The angle shown on VAR did suggest he was onside but what's the point if you're only going to look at one angle, hardly conclusive is it?! These are the issues that need ironing out I suppose.

Anyway it was annoying but we didn't do enough to get anything from the game regardless so, not much point crying over spilled milk.

"used correctly" will always be slow, and will always have to revert back to opinion rather than solid-fact on occasions.

I can't see how spoiling the flow of the game for a slower version for the same imperfections can ever be a positive addition.

If VAR could be perfect or fast I'd stand a chance of supporting it, but it never can be or will be.

The game of football is more than the rules. Change it at football's own peril.

I agree it needs to be quicker which is surely possible. And yeah there is always going to be an element of subjectivity with some decsions. Surely it's a way to limit this tho and means refs can see things they've missed etc.

Would you consider VAR a massive detriment to your enjoyment of the last world cup? I personally wouldn't and even quite liked it on occasion.

it's already quick for 5the ones that can be sorted quickly. The long-time issue is with the ones that can't really be sorted at all via VAR - and that's always going to be a lot of them.

but it's being used for much more than ones refs have missed.

VAR exists because refs can't be trusted to make the right call even when they feel they've seen something properly - so it'll never be for just the ones they've missed. It'll be used for all big decisions.

Like most people I enjoyed the novelty of it - but that's something very different to wanting it to continue.

The objectors always said it would slow the game, and even the advocates are now moaning that it slows the game. One day the advocate might wake up to it: the problem isn't the operation of VAR, it's the existence of VAR.

I don’t like DRS in cricket. I don’t like VAR.

However, if last night’s VAR decision had been made in the same way DRS works, the offside call would have been implemented. I.e. the use of VAR would not have been able to conclusively prove the linesman’s offside decision was incorrect.

DRS didn't change how much cricket I watched. VAR has impacted the amount of football I watch. I've got bored in games more often and VAR is a big part of why I've found games dragging.

I was mildly against both before their introduction, but I'm now neutral on DRS and strongly against VAR. It's fucking shit and I can only see it getting worse.

Looks like the new Spurs ground has been delayed again - March at the earliest now. They've really cocked this up, haven't they?

it's probably a combination of the normal builders "I'll be round to finish it on Tuesday guv", combined with an ambitious target that was always going to slip on a big building contract.

Thing is, if you don't set that ambitious target in the first place it slips back even further. It's a bit of a no-win for the club by default.

I don’t think the “it’ll be ready for the start of the season, no wait, September, no wait, January, now it’s March...” message has done them any favours. From a PR perspective it has been a disaster.

It’ll be interesting to see what will happen if it is ready in March and they’re still in the title race. Would they want the disruption of moving? Would Liverpool and City kick off if they did move that late into the season?

Personally I can’t see them playing there until August.

May I wish Man City and Chelsea under 21 the worst luck possible in the checkatrade trophy. I hope neither steal a great day from the fans of a lower league football club.

Didn’t know that was a thing but I agree with you. Rangers and Celtic already got colt teams in lower league trophies and trying to get them into the lower leagues.

No thanks.

Nope it’s none of that. It’s Levy’s fault for owning the electrical contracts and not using Mace.

Burton shouldn't be despondent there is still 90 minutes to go, anything can happen!

Reminds me of when I used to play for an under 8s team when I was a kid. We used to celebrate when we only lost in single digits.
