Hugh Jass
Going back to Japan and that last ten minutes the real irony is that they effectively qualified through showing better sportsmanship than Senegal...

Japan knew they were going through on disciplinary record so they spent the whole final 10 passing the ball between their back four to avoid any booking or anything. I suspect that rule might be canned by the next WC. A stupid rule.

Both teams will want to win, but I doubt players will be making the sorts of efforts they would in a 'normal' game which might get them injured. Precisely this. I'd be disappointed if we finish top because of yellow cards.

Hugh Jass
Pretty much as expected so far, two massively changed teams with little cohesion in a match neither side has a huge incentive to win. Can’t draw any conclusions beyond that really.
Hugh Jass
One of my favourite sights this WC has been Harry Maguire picking up the ball in defence and marauding upfield with it. Chaos usually follows.

jyoung
TAA's delivery has been awful all game which is disappointing as I thought that was one of his strengths.

Hugh Jass
It’s fair to say the fringe players haven’t stakes much of a claim so far.

mjsell
Pretty telling how Southgate views this result based on his substitutions

Yep the only ones that really had a chance were Rashford, Rose and Delph. All of those have actually played their way out of contention for me. (Rose has been a bit better going forward than Young but has looked sloppy defensively)

Hugh Jass
This “easy” side of the draw means we still have to beat Colombia, Spain and Brazil to win the thing.

thetime
Arrogance by England fans on a perceived easier draw to the semis, reason they will go out before that if players also believe that.

It depends what your ambitions are. I’m not sure Belgium and England combined have won more than a handful of World Cup knockout games in the last 20 years, don’t think you can turn down a second round match against japan.
