The more I think about it the better it'll be. The formalities will be done by 1 and we have a room reserved in our local pub that has a big screen.

What better place to watch England in the WC Final than surrounded by family and mates?

(They'd better fucking win on Wednesday now)

Oh, that's actually great! Congrats. Hope the christening goes well and fingers crossed there will be something on the tele after!

aside from his bad misses in front of a near-open goal i thought Sterling had his best game on Saturday. I'm happy enough for him to keep his place.

Can't for the life of me understand why Southgate is happy for the rest of the team to carry Alli tho.

Yeah I agree with all that. I'd have started RLC over Alli on Sat.

Having missed sitters previously, you’re suggesting he’s got even worse and isn’t even getting into positions to miss sitters now?

What? I said we didn't struggle to create chances on Saturday, then you replied stating we only had two shots on target despite previously bemoaning Sterling for missing a load of sitters. I'm now asking you how did Sterling miss a load of sitters if (in your opinion) we created no chances.

Where did I say Sterling isn't getting into positions to miss sitters? I said the complete opposite, that he is creating chances.

Ha. So Gareth knows best when you agree with him but not when you don’t?

Yes you did.

Which is true.

In the tournament, not necessarily the last game. Which is also true.

Which is piffle. Even the patronising video you linked to admitted that.

When did I say Gareth knows best? Haven't said that once. I think Sterling should have kept his spot but I think Alli shouldn't have done.

If you're gonna try and use my words back against me at least make sure it was me who said it.

But he did miss some sitters in the last game... From chances he'd fashioned for himself. Just because he tried to take it around the keeper and then his shot was off target, doesn't mean it wasn't a chance.

His runs are quite clearly creating chances. How is he missing sitters in the previous games if that isn't true? I'm not saying he's providing assists or making key passes, I'm saying his movement is creating chances for himself when other players find him.

Hurrah!

Yes I did - to highlight the stupidity of your point I was responding to.

Sterling is getting several chances to score as a result of his runs being found by teammates. We don't have anyone else who can play instead of him who's shown that they're capable of helping us create more chances. So me saying we may create less chances if he's dropped is a stupid point? I didn't even say it was definite, I said it was possible.

Come off it, mate. I get that all you do in this thread is try to be contrarian, but this is just pointless.

Eh, I asked you a question - the clue was the question mark at the end of the sentence.

So how many games has he missed sitters in now?

How many opportunities do you give someone until accept someone else deserves a chance?

2 in 41 games is it now? Not scored for over a thousand minutes for England?

I happen to think if the common denominator in moves breaking down is consistently one individual player...and that player isn’t scoring, isn’t assisting, isn’t creating chances for others....he should probably be dropped.

Yes...his teammates are doing their job and sterling is failing in his.

This is the stupid bit. No one can demonstrate they’re as good (sic) as Sterling at missing chances if they’re not afforded the opportunity. You would sooner reward failure than attempt to improve.

Pretty sure Sterling's shot after the keepers save when he attempted to take it round him was on target and was deflected out for a corner.

He did everything right with that chance until he hesitated after the initial save. His run was superbly timed, his touch was spot on and he was right to try and take it around the keeper as he had closed the space. Keeper then gets a very good touch on the ball (which if it had been at the other end would have been nothing but praise for pickford).

It was just the delay in what should have been a quick lay off to Kane, but all in all pretty understandable considering the speed the decision needed to be made.

Getting pretty sick of the comments about sterling tbh

oh, c'mon - he misses more than the average amount of gold-plated chances, for City as well as England.

It's hardly surprising that they get commented on. Would be different if he tucked some of them away (particularly for england).

Yes he does - and no it isn't surprising that people will judge him solely on that - but those people are idiots.

Alli's been worse than Sterling all tournament. Sterling's created attacking chances where he's then missed the ball for the assist or missed the goal. Alli's just wandered round aimlessly achieving nothing.

Lingard's not got anything done since the Panama game either. And has missed more sitters than Sterling this tournament.

And the fact that 3 of England's 4 attacking players are having debates like this around them shows that England haven't been great so far. Our most threatening players are defenders!

I don't think he's being judged solely on that. His contributions have been so-so even with that put aside.

It's not unreasonable that some people think it would be better to replace him with X, Y or Z, even if you or I might not agree with them.

I don't really understand why you asked me the question though, seeing as I never said anything about Gareth Southgate knowing best. It's possible to agree with one decision someone makes without thinking everything they do is correct.

He's missed sitters in at least two games (Tunisia and Sweden). I agree that he should have done better with his chances, but I think he's done well (along with the players feeding him) to get those chances.

If Rashford had shown anything in the Belgium game I wouldn't have minded Southgate giving him a chance. I think if Rashford came in for Sterling he'd do better at finishing off chances, but I also think he'd get less chances and our all round game would be worse with him in place of Sterling.

In any case, I don't think it'd be a good idea to change things now for an extremely important semi final.

Spurs have 9 first team players still involved at the World Cup, Chelsea and United both have 7.

Given that the season starts less than four weeks after the final surely that's going to play merry hell with their preparations?

Mate. Chelsea are specialists in this sort of crap but this pre season prep has already been the worst for a very long time and as you say, that's only gonna get worse due to the World Cup. So much uncertainty at the club at the moment. In real risk of falling behind the crowd if we don't address some of our problems.

I'm impressed Conte is still there a full three months after the whole world and his dog knew he was getting the sack.
