JacquelineS
Really kicked it last night. Loved their story board shorts in the background. Well done! I am still smiling after the show glow!
BeauSEJOURMusic
As good as they sounded, it was sadly a show for the die-hard fans and no one else. I've never had so much room and personal space watching a headliner before....
galbani
True. We were 25m from the stage. I wandered down to the front for the last two songs. Huge gaps everywhere and people leaving in droves....
Frazerbob
As a HUGE DM fan, I was at the Festival for the first time because they were playing. Having seen them over 50 times, I was concerned about how they would tap into the mainstream festival crowd. My concerns were proved valid. They don’t get any radio air time in the uk, bar Just Can’t Get Enough on Absolute 80’s so no surprise the majority of the crowd struggled with the set until Everything Counts. The last 45 minutes were bang on but many of the crowd had already been lost by then. This review in NME sums it up perfectly for me... http://www.nme.com/blogs/festivals-blog/depeche-mode-learn-work-british-festivals-first-isle-wight-show-2343189 Compare the DM set to The Killers, a seasoned UK festival band who smashed it from the very first song . AMBEV
Springsteen, Tom petty were the same. The who, Phonics, prodigy, pearl jam, played for the crowed when I’ve seen them.
maelzoid
I loved it, but then I am a fan and know much of their back catalogue. I find the attitude of the casuals a bit frustrating. They seem to expect a band to play stuff they know, when in all fairness they probably only know a couple of DM songs. You can't fault DM for not putting on a good show in terms of musicianship, visuals and showmanship. It's a shame that UK radio don't get behind them more. If you ever listen to supposed alternative Radio X, it's pretty much a Stereophonics propaganda machine, which I guess explains why they're still headlining.
