  1. 1. If The Cure were to headline would you be there? I'm intrigued due to the varied opinions of them on here.

    • Yes - Definitely, regardless of who else is on the other stages.
      209
    • More than likely - Depending on strength of the clashes on other stages.
      262
    • Unlikely - Know a couple of songs but there would probably be something else on you'd watch instead.

    • No - Never been a fan so will definitely be elsewhere.

As much as I believe this is happening I'm still struggling to get my head around The Cure headlining Glastonbury 2019. Like, is this new album of theirs gonna get some heavy promotion that puts them back in the public eye, or is it just a pretty random booking from the festival that will get incredibly muted reception when it's announced and then still won't make much sense come the festival?

I genuinely think a massive problem with glastonbury nowadays is it’s attendees want instagrammable coachella style headliners

however after they’ve got their picture or video to prove they were at Radiohead they lose interest.

edit: the cure are great and I don’t doubt they will smash it but if a big act is on the other or other stages the crowd for the cure will be pretty small. If the chemical brothers or whoever are on the other at the same time then the cure are fucked

I think the cure would be fine against the chemical brothers, I'm sure they have probably clashed at other festivals! I'd be more worried if they were up against a popular hipster band.

Think they would hit the mark on Friday night. 2 Hr set minimum. Not just top 20 hits. Album tracks like Snake Pit, Same deep water.... Etc etc.

Would also like Cocteau Twins, Bunneymen and Julian Cope / Teardrop Explodes....

Apologies. Teen of the late 70's early 80's. There is no doubt good stuff about now..

Really enjoyed Dhakrabhacka In the rain in 2015 ?

Aye they're ideal for the Friday night but they're playing in Belgium that night so we've had to shift onto predicting them for Sat/Sun. They'll hit the spot just fine whatever night it is, like.

Yup it’s not necessarily a glastonbury problem but there has been a surge of bucket listers and bucketlisters are hard to please

I find bucket listers tend to book their ticket off past lineups they did not attend and hope that the next year will be relatively the same.

for example I imagine a lot of people who are new to Glasto want Beyoncé, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Coldplay etc because that’s how they were introduced to the festival. They’ve seen past festivals on the TV and they want exactly that.

Buckerlisters are cool now, didn't you know?

Nope, you were right. Bestival 2016 with The Cure headlining had an attendance of approximately 35,000 (though unlike this year, they didn't resort to discounted/free tickets) against a capacity of 60,000. I was there, and thought it was great, though a lot of people complained about the various last minute cutbacks they made to try and balance the books.

Oh I was on about 2011, totally forgot they’d done 2016 too. According to listings on here 2011 was 45,000 capacity sold out and 2016 not far off double capacity of 79,999. Big jump from 2011 which was the last one to sell out.

No idea what’s gone on behind the scenes there and how or why it ended up moving to Dorset mind, but trying to almost double capacity in a short space of time might’ve been too much too soon, and now it’s smaller than it was in 2011.

Still, I’d love to see The Cure at Glastonbury, can’t see em doing anything except headlining, we’d probably be looking at a 30ish song set.. Been rumoured for ages.

I assumed Paul McCartney would get the Saturday slot? The Cure Sunday. Is this not possible?

Makes the most sense to me. The Cure have a gig in Belgium on the Friday so Sunday seems more likely to me.

Lots of people think, though, that Macca having a US gig on the Wednesday makes him likely for the Sunday. Whilst I can see where this comes from, I think Macca playing Wed/Sat in the US/UK is more likely than The Cure playing Fri/Sat in Belgium/the UK.

And I feel like having a big Saturday headliner for the prime TV slot is a bigger priority for the Eavii than pleasing the locals. Macca on the Saturday night seems like perfect placement, and The Cure on Sunday are a perfectly inoffensive band with a few hits for the locals. Better than when they've been stuck with Kasabian in the past.

Yes. All makes much more sense.

they're a heritage act. people will know some tunes. I'd liken them to The Who, everyone knows 5 or 6 songs when they hear them, the rest will be stuff only fans know.  they make far more sense than 1-album-wonder Stormzy, or 90% of our fanbase is teenage girls 1975.

Can anyone recommend a starting point for the cure?

Can honestly say I can name any songs or albums but then again im fairly musically challenged

In terms of not knowing any songs, listen to Friday I'm In Love, Boys Don't Cry and The Lovecats. You'll probably have heard them somewhere (although they don't play The Lovecats live these days).

Disintegration is their best album and may be my favourite album of all time, but as Gnomicide said just give their Greatest Hits a whirl. It's full of big tunes and they play most of it live. That's how I first got into them when they got announced for R&L in 2012.

They have an album called Pornography. It is full of their most popular, happy, sing-a-long festival songs.

Are you being funny? It's got some great songs, but what you've said isn't really true.

Obviously if you are, then I apologise for spoiling it ?
