  1. 1. If The Cure were to headline would you be there? I'm intrigued due to the varied opinions of them on here.

    • Yes - Definitely, regardless of who else is on the other stages.
      209
    • More than likely - Depending on strength of the clashes on other stages.
      262
    • Unlikely - Know a couple of songs but there would probably be something else on you'd watch instead.
      194
    • No - Never been a fan so will definitely be elsewhere.

They don't still have APE tickets to shift, but the Chemical Brothers and Christine & the Queens do...

Ah didn't see they'd sold out! Was still debating going, but that's made my mind up for me. Best cancel my hotel then

didn't we hear that Miley was playing before Years and Years and Kylie?

obviously Y&Y aren't sub size, but could they be 3rd down? (i've no idea about their popularity).

find it hard to see Miley - Y&Y - Kylie - someone - sub - Cure, which would put Miley at around 1pm/2pm....

Still wouldn’t surprise me if it’s:

The Cure

Vampire Weekend

Snow Patrol

Kylie

Miley

Years and Years

The slot hasn't changed though, has it? As you say, James Brown played fourth down, as I think they all have (Chic weren't the legend slot). The time might have changed but now it has been honed as a massive feature of the festival and the curfews are set in place, I don't see any justification switching about at all.

Kylie was announced as playing "the legendary Sunday afternoon slot" so I'm sure it will actually take place in the aftenoon. The Who were given two hours in 2015 and Lionel still played fourth down. Plus, Kenny Rogers started his set before 4pm. Ultimately, the festival will decide how long The Cure get and they can still get two hours and not derail the festival's traditional schedule.

I'm not suggesting that Chic were the legend slot, I'm using them to illustrate that the specifics of the legend slot have already changed over the years.

More specifically, I'm saying that for the vast majority of people, especially those watching on TV who to honest will be the bigger consideration, whether it's slotted as 3rd down or 4th down makes very little difference as long as it ends up in a broadly familiar time window. I don't think it actually needs justification to switch it, as I'm not convinced anyone outside of efests will give a shit.

Regarding The Who playing longer - yes, they did. But they were actually scheduled for 90 minutes until very late on - they cut into the changeover to pull back an extra 30 minutes and announced it day of.

that would make a lot of sense. I definitely see Snow Patrol as an afternoon/evening Pyramid act. can they play Friday/Saturday? haven't been paying much attention to their availability...

Shortening The Cure' s set might be in everyone's interest. Imagine a 90 minute bangerfest.

There's definitely a case to be made for that.

Thing is, by their standards even 2 hours would be considered pretty short so it's anyone's guess what they've agreed to.

They can play Friday (Eden sessions Saturday), but like you, I see them as a pyramid act.  Looks like Ezra and Lauryn Hill are the sub and 3rd on Friday so I’d put them on Sunday.

People will mock but it wouldn’t actually surprise me to see them sub.  Headlining latitude and got a Eden sessions show too and that seems to be about Glasto sub level.

The specifics of the schedule itself have changed over the years - the year you mentioned James Brown starting at 6:30 had the headliner starting at 10:35 so why would you use that to illustrate your point when it only indicates that the Legend is a static 4th-down booking? :P

If there's no justification to switch it, why wouldn't they have done it already in the past couple of decades? Funnily enough I was here thinking nobody actually gives a shit that it always starts after 4pm (it doesn't) except on eFests.

Dunno about other festival schedules being released but Rock Werchter have put theirs out and The Cure are playing 2h15. And I'd think somewhere like that, they're more likely to get as long as they want so that's probably the absolute maximum length of the Glasto slot.

My point was exactly that shit changes. The headline curfew changed, the changeover times changed, the legend slot changed. It being 4th down or not hasn't changed* but that's not an indication that it couldn't, just that so far they've not wanted/needed to.

Again, they really don't need a justification to switch it other than "it flows better / times fit better".

I don't know what's going to happen. Neither option would surprise me, but it seems bizarre to rule out that one specific change when other changes have happened and especially when Kylie will likely be the biggest draw that slot has ever seen. That combined with a potentially extended headliner slot is why it doesn't make sense to me to be so certain that nothing in the order changes.

We’re still unsure if it’s gonna go the way you’ve mentioned or if we’ve still got a Pyramid sub missing. Legend slot has traditionally been fourth down but I don’t see why that couldn’t change, but then Vampire Weekend would make a pretty weak sub, especially with their new album not exactly lighting the world on fire.

Those new songs posted on here, not setting the world alight either tbf, They've not been the same band for a while now, their debut was brilliant, Contra had substance that drifted then it went awful.

I'd have thought they would sub over VW

Everybody's? What of the Janelle Monae fans who want to sneak an hour of The Cure in before herself.

Bought tickets to see the electric lady do MIF now, but even so I don't think I'll be able to turn down that WH set, as much as I love The Cure.

So cos other things have changed over the course of Glastonbury history, it's bizarre to think that anything won't?

I don't really understand why her being a big name for that slot would necessitate bumping her up one slot, when she's also too big for a third down slot. And then of course, even if The Cure had the final say over their set length and chose to do the longest slot in recent history, she could still happily play in the afternoon - as was officially specified upon her announcement - rather than playing in the evening.

What if you go Monae and it sucks ass and the sound's pony? Then you've got to go see her again and think about having missed The Cure. :P

But with this new album and the new DVD and rumoured retirement, The Cure are definitely coming to an arena near you in the next year or so aren't they?

Snow Patrol subbing Glastonbury in 2019 would be just as mental as... well, The Killers And The Cure headlining in 2019. Don’t see it happening though, or them being on the Pyramid at all.

Hoping for a mystery sub still but gearing up for an underwhelming (on paper - they’ll be great in person) Vampire Weekend sub.

What's a DVD?

Kate Bush after a rough few years did promise the Manchester crowd he'd be back when they had to cut the show a bit short (well, for them) on account of his dickie tummy. So I'll definitely be paying much more money than is really reasonable to see them in a venue nothing like as good as the Pyramid in the near future, no need for me to worry at all about that.

Vampire Weekend have been third down last two times they have played.

Friendly Fires are subbing the JP tent, so that's my sub sorted - as long as the Cure can keep their set south of three hours and avoid a clash.

I actually have them as Other headers in my prediction, but the above wouldn’t surprise me either.
