it was Saturday 21 June 1986 for sure { 1985 was dead muddy } and here is a shot of myself with a ex of mine taking when we were waiting for the concert to start.

I have to admit - I was a big fan before Glasto 86 as one of my Mates was a school friend of 
Robert Smith and he used to get us lots of free passes to see Robert Smith at the Hammersmith Odeon and the Royal Albert Hall - at one stage he was with Siouxsie and the Banshees so we got two for the price of one.

Only the people who were there will appreciate how amazing the Cure was at Glasto 86 and 
the thunderstorm just made it ten times better - that could never be beaten that is for sure. 
 
what we need is a time machine to get back to that night !!!

Something similar to the Hyde Park setlist - though I'd throw in Want, from Wild Mood Swings, as that's gone down excellently on both occasions that I've seen them.

The Hyde Park gig was meant to be a complete retrospective I guess. I see your point, but I can't see Burn - a perennial live fixture in 2016 having been played very rarely before - and Disintegration being binned off if the rumours of next year's festival run celebrating its anniversary in some form hold true.

The last four you mention all should be fixtures though, aye. Here's hoping it's a show a little more geared towards neutrals than die-hards.

Nope. I was made up because they did Sometimes, Tomorrow and Out to Get You, and my mates were all pissed off because they didn't play Sit Down. Laughed my arse off.

Just had a look at the setlist. At least they did 'Come Home'. I'm not a fan, but would have expected 'She's a Star' too. Interesting

They're a great reference point for the "should festival bands play the hits" question. As an early doors band with new material and an active touring schedule, great setlist.  Had they been on a higher slot, you'd expect a bit more of a crowd pleaser.

Taking that setlist you've got 5 songs from the (then) current album, a couple from the previous album, and 6 of the classics.  I could have happily lost one or two of the newer ones to hear maybe Waltzing Along and She's A Star, definitely either over Sit Down. But yeah, I really enjoyed it

Also, as a fairly big Bruce fan, can't say I'd even have Born in the USA in my perfect 30-song show. Not by some distance.

But that’s sort of the point, innit? Bruce’s audience that night weren’t made up of big fans looking for deep cuts.

True. I always look back at Springsteen's Glasto set and think that he certainly could have judged it better, but I know that if I'd been there, I'd have absolutely loved it.

He pretty much never plays Born in the USA though.  Sure I read somewhere that he got so fed up of people mis-interpreting it (was it Regan who used it?) that he stopped playing it. May be wrong.

From memory he played the rest of the hits though, Born to Run, Glory Days, Thunder Road, Dancing in the Dark, The River. I think to your average UK Joe anything beyond that (and USA) would count as a deep cut.

He's got more ambivalent on it these days. It was a fairly regular fixture on the Wrecking Ball and The River 2016 Tours, plus has been a cornerstone of his Broadway show.

True, but he also stuck a few real left-field shouts in there, like Hard Times Come Again No More, Seeds, American Land. There could have been room for more established, regular picks like Atlantic City and Hungry Heart in there instead (though I think Atlantic City was rather out of favour at the time too).

I think a lot of the problem is that while he did play those, they were all right at the end of the set by while point he'd already lost a decent chunk of the audience with a fairly downbeat set. The set order is almost as important as the song choice.

Other songs he could of chucked in that I'd expect most people to know - My Hometown, Hungry Heart, and Streets of Philadelphia. Those 3 plus a few lively songs like Rosalita, Growing Up or Spirit in the Night chucked in there would've made a huge difference.
