So guys I will be attending glasto this year as a good friend of mine has managed to get me onto the Oxfam volunteering!!

I fully intend to skip my volunteering shifts and enjoy the full festival, it's too good to miss really isn't it?! I'm aware I will lose my deposit but it will be worth it.

Can anyone give me tips on how to get away from the volunteer camp etc? Will they come looking for me? If anyone else has done this could they please give me their method.

Go for it and don't forget to ram that great big cactus up your arse.

How about you go and f**k a cow? You seem to love them so much. Weapon.

Based on that response, any doubt as to whether or not you're a 13 year old child sitting in your bedroom feeling like a hard man by writing bullshit on the internet has very much been removed.

By the way - that thing you keep doing? Stop it kiddo, too much and you'll go blind.

Not only will you not get another chance, neither will anybody else recommended by your ‘good friend’ and probably him too, and if that’s how you treat your ‘good friends’ I’m so glad we’ve never met. Enjoy the festival.

I doubt this is a genuine post, for all the reasons people have previously mentioned, but I'm also pretty sure that there will be people reading it who are considering the same thing, so for what it's worth, here's my two penneth.

I'm part of Glastonbury security, so I can tell you what will happen if you do 'opt out' of volunteering.:

Firstly, your personal details and photograph will be placed on Glastonbury's block list, so you'll not be able to register to buy tickets for the festival in the future.

Obviously you'll be blocked from Oxfam's volunteer list, and you'll also be placed on a a PAAM block list, which is accessed by other voluntary organisations, most check the list against any potential volunteers, so it's likely you'll be refused a place to volunteer at most other festivals.

Your photograph will be distributed, via intranet, to security personnel, and they will be asked to look out for you, you are at this point classed as a trespasser on Worthy Farm land, so it's taken quite seriously. Oxfam also have the right to display your photograph on the festival noticeboards and encourage festival goers and (probably very angry, after having to cover 'opt out' shifts) volunteers and staff to look out for you, and report to security if they see you.

It is quite likely you will be caught, and if so you will be escorted off the site. Depending on your behaviour when caught, you will either be given the chance to collect your belongings, or escorted off the site immediately if you deem to be displaying disruptive behaviour. If you resist with force you will be apprehended by the onsite police.

So all in all, it's taken pretty seriously. Glastonbury not only needs volunteers, it depends on them for various health and safety policies which form part of the licence agreement. Volunteering isn't just an easy way into the festival, it's an important cog in the beautiful machine, and you should respect your place and your fellow volunteers and be happy to be a part of it.

There's a much better reason to doubt it's a genuine post.  The OP (forgetting he was using his alternate non-troll username 'Olliee') came a cropper on page 2 of the following thread, but you ought to read it through from the beginning because it's a cracker:

Hi Paul,

Sacking off the Oxfam nonsense is easy, i have done it before, as who wants to work when you could be getting on it down the Silver Hayes?

The only thing to watch out for is basically getting grassed up, as a lot of the people who work for Oxfam are little goody 2 shoes muppets who's idea of being naughty at Glastonbury involves smoking 1 little hash joint once their shift is over ?. If you let on to others you are going to do a runner, expect to get grassed up, sadly. So dont tell anyone your intentions.

Last time i just packed up my shit and disappeared on Wednesday morning whilst most were asleep, and went and joined my mates who had just got in the public gates. Easy. Some supervisor mug noticed me moving my stuff and asked me what i was doing, i just told him to mind his own business and he soon backed off. It was pretty hilarious seeing other Oxfam people at their posts throughout the weekend when i was off my noggin. I dont understand why others dont do the same.

I wouldnt worry too much about the scaremongering about being "blacklisted" (ooohhhh, scary!). It hasnt affected me at all, in fact, the year after ducking out of Oxfam i got a job on a bar and fucked that off too. And I have dodged stewarding at Boomtown before, disappeared form car parking jobs at other festivals etc etc. I doubt they check this supposed "blacklist", its probably not even real.

Have a great time at Glastonbury, and dont back out of doing a runner. No doubt Oxfam will try dissaude you from doing it during the training, but they are basically chatting shit, once you are in, you are in ?

I have actually just read this thread through, and wow, there are some properly sad characters here arent there?

To whoever said they are "proud" to be a Glastonbury volunteer- you really need to get a life. I bet you wait all year just so you can stand around Glastonbury working whilst others are having the time of their life? What is the fucking point of that?!

To those who actually thought and said that Oxfam would be able to track him down just from an internet post- oh dear!

And why have you all put how many times you have been to Glastonbury in your signatures? So sad.
