Glastonbury 2019 Drop off/pick up

I’m going to my first Glastonbury this year and am planning on being dropped off/picked up. I’ve read some things about there being a specific point you get dropped off and then get a bus to Gate A.

If anyone has done this would be great if you could let me know how it works/if it’s a good way of arriving.

Thanks!

Get  dropped off at the drop and collect point which is at Bath and West Showground. This is served by regular shuttle buses to Gate A more information -  https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/2592-2/ :)

Great thanks!

Have you personally done this? If so, how have you found it?

I first did this in 2016 (the wet one), then again in 2017.

Didn't queue, just waited for the coach at Bath and West, even had toilets and a burger van there. Loaded my bag and beer trolley on, with help from stewards, jumped on the coach and drove straight to the bus station at Gate A, easy.

The return journey was just as easy, wait at the correct stop at the bus station, again by Gate A, fairly reasonable sized queue, maybe 2 bus fulls.

I'll doing so again this year too! I would recommend it over driving and parking as you are so much closer to the gate. There is also a similar service from Castle Cary but this gets a lot busier, especially on the return journey.

That's why I always go with the Bath and West Showground drop off point.

Also where are you travelling from? If you are coming from the east, like Wiltshire, you can always veer off towards Evercreech and miss any road traffic too ?

Great thanks! Sounds like a good way of doing it then. Coming from the south not too far from London, is the Bath drop off/collection best for me then I guess?

Is there a limit on what you can bring in terms of getting it in the bus i.e will a upright trolley be okay to take?

Also, where have you camped in the past? Coming in from Gate A i’m currently thinking Oxlyers, but have heard it fills up quick. I want to be near Other and Pyramid but also not too far from South East corner so feel somewhere around there is a good bet.

Bath and West is east of the festival site, so luckily London side, so you drive westerly along the M3 onto the A303 northwards, past Castle Cary, that's the route I would go.

Camping wise, you're coming in at Gate A, so it's on Oxlyers side, it does fill up quick, what day you thinking? You're best staying on the Other Stage side rather than the Pyramid side as it's easier to get to and from Shangri-La that way.

If Oxlyers full you could go Bushy Ground instead, further away but close to the Other Stage still but also perfect between Silver Hayes and Arcadia.

Great, I think I will try Oxylers first then and go somewhere near if full. I'm currently thinking of leaving early on the Wednesday morning, its about 2 hour drive for me. I've heard horror stories of people queuing for hours so hoping if I get nearby about 8am/9am that I should be in early to get good camping spot.

How have you done it in the past? Arrived on Wednesday? Also, I am hoping that by being dropped off and then getting the bus it will keep me out of the main congestion of people waiting to get into the car parks, is that how it works?

You should be OK, you'll avoid most traffic heading to Bath and West, certainly at that time, you'll have to queue as that's the busiest period but it doesn't take long. Once you are inside ask a steward near the gate about camping at Oxylers, they can tell you if it's full or not, then you can choose to head to somewhere else, like Bushy Ground, without walking to full camping sites.

Normally I head down on a Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning but I work at Glastonbury so I tend to do things differently to the average punter, this year i'm heading down Tuesday afternoon.

Saying that I use the shuttle service and while it follows the same traffic as those into car parks, it pulls into the bus station at the bottom of the hill, it takes about 10-15 minutes so it's fairly fast.
