Biffys first albums were actually heavy.  Then they turned kinda alternative-especially with this new album.

The thing I don't get is why Biffy can headline whilst Korn can't. Just doesn't make sense...Korn are the 'bigger band' in the metal and hard rock scene.

Commercial success. Korn may be more popular with the metal audience, but within the bigger spectrum of things, Biffy are bigger.

In another world where Download had been around longer I think Korn could’ve headlined, but because of them being on a bit of a downward trend when they first played back in ‘04 instead of the heights they’d reached previously they got stuck forever subbing the thing.

If you canvassed the core Download customers who they'd rather spend their Saturday night watching, Korn or Biffy, I don't think there'd be much of a shock result.
Biffy's more recent poppier material clearly precludes them as Download Festival headliner stock. Well, 'clearly' to everyone except the man with the chequebook. 
It doesn't mean they don't have the stature to headline elsewhere, just not Download.

Download is essentially a metal audience though. Which is what i'm getting at really....that commertial sucess outside the metal and hard rock scene is largely irrelevant. I think last 2 Korn albums (especially Serenity of suffering) went down really well and got a lot of their fans excited again.

I agree that the further in to their career they get the stranger they seem as a Download headliner, but to a festival thats headliner pool is drying up and with no new metal bands rising up to headliner level a band like them being on the roster are necessary, whereas Korn have been coming back to sub for so long that it might be seen as a weak booking if they just popped up as a headliner one year despite no real change in stature. I’m aware their newest album is supposedly their best thing in ages but they’re not exactly a band making huge waves in metal circles anymore, even if they do have the material to fill a headline set and the live show to do a damn good job of it.

Kiss are for their ""last ever"" show, Biffy were heavily featured on DLTV and have new music, and SOAD are on lineups pretty much everywhere else.

Bit bummed that The Offspring aren’t there but other than that, I am even more pleased with this than 2020. Gojira > Deftones > Biffy is going to be such a great run. ADTR is a nice surprise.

The Poppy addition is great of course. The consensus was she might have slotted in on Friday Avalanche, after her tour in March? Now being announced for mid-Zippo, that slot still up for grabs!

Yeah, I’m happy enough with it too.

Not very exciting as we knew the bulk of the bands would just be bumped from this year but, other than Offspring, all my personal 2020 announced bands are there.
